by far the best cover i have seen. playing without a pick demonstrates your dexterity and endurance as a musician.

Every cover that plays without a pick sounds so much better than with a pick, really strange rule to have

with good gear and setup you can get better sound playing with fingers than with pick

Thanks! I tried the pick but found I could play it much tighter and more consistently with fingers.

Using your thumbs really ads a lot of dynamics to the song..an your tone is great even on my shitty tablet speakers..just watched several other try outs..

Excellent! I don't know why pick is requirement, you nailed well on finger style! When FF will choose?

No idea-I know Dino has at least seen this video so if they like me, I’m sure they’ll be in touch soon enough. They were on tour in Australia when this audition started

Great cover man… Have you ever messed around with a Darkglass pedal? It’ll definitely make your stand out.

This was recorded through two of them haha, Harmonic Booster and Hyper Luminal.

I have that same bass! I too, considered doing a fingerstyle audition video just because of the rule about playing with a pick. But then I read the "joke" requirement about being a hard drinker and knew I wouldn't vibe with the gig even if I got it.

@@grocker5382 my main like rig is a Kemper, it was just that with an Aguilar Tonehammer profile straight into logic with an EQ to make the high mids pop a little more.

Guys, use your brain, if they asked for one song and everybody is doing it, what do you do? It's obvious, you film more songs; check their setlist and start from there.

Believe me I tried but I found this riff soooo much easier on fingers. Alternate picking game has to be perfect to nail the verse riff

@@guitaristssuck8979I saw but chose to finger anyway after practicing for a bit. Nailing the performance is far more important to me that the tools used in my opinion. The argument could be made that as the bassist need to accommodate tools at the client’s request, and that’s totally valid. If it’s a deal breaker for them, then so be it.
@guitaristssuck89792 ай бұрын
@@DanSaillant well, I guess it's not mandatory for this song... but generally yeah

Bro, did you miss the part where Dino said, "No finger picking, Must use a pick". It makes it sound all wrong. Following directions is a big part of the audition.
@DanSaillant2 ай бұрын
You should read through some of the other comments where I detailed exactly why I chose not to use a pick. Trust me, I can read, and I can also make artistic choices where I want/need. I also guarantee if you listened and didn’t watch, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

I probably would

Your fingering is great. But the attack of a pick is much different.
@ignaciodiaz31822 ай бұрын
Do it again with a pick. You must play with a pick for them.
@DanSaillant2 ай бұрын
If choosing not to play with a pick is a deal breaker for them then I’m not a good fit. Zero interest into forcing myself into limiting technical boxes for the sake of a job

In music business there is no freedom for hired musician. Unfortunately they won't look at the video even if it is really well played. Pick was requirement period.

@@alexandredesmonts35 he liked the post on instagram tho 💁♂️ Also “no freedom for hired musicians” is completely not true. I’m assuming you don’t work in the industry or you’d know that
