I think this is a super common issue that is misunderstood and under-addressed. Thank you so much! Great vid.

Great video. I have a Romanian rescue, also nervous of men. She's extremely food motivated, so I am hoping we can work on this. Once she accepts a man, she is fine but it is a long process.

I had all sorts of behavioral issues with my dog, she is a Carpathian cross and lived on the streets in Romania. This has been really insightful. I've learnt a lot. The shape interpretation makes so much sense. The discipline as well. Thank you so much

I adopted a Carpathian mix from Romania last September. She’s made great progress, but her fear for men is still an issue. I hope this will help us.

I rescued my dog from the street from Romania. She is a dachshund. She was very scared and it took almost two years to learn to trust us and now she is very very sweet. When I walked her she was very scared. The vet told me she was beaten as a puppy and chained. The reason they are scared of people is because people beat dogs here in Romania for different reasons, they chain the dog in the garden by a tree and the dog can live there for years. I wish more people would be dog lovers in my country. Even I had problems with my in-laws when i adopted my dog, because they hate dogs as well and when they come to visit us they do not like my dog around them.

Starting using a leash in the house on my rescue pup since she is afraid of my husband. She couldn’t run and hide and took treats from his hand.😊

You say for the owner to hold the leash, but does the man the dog is afraid of give the treats? Thank you.

My rommie is reactive to people in the home and men especially. I do put her on the lead, discipline her and tell her no etc, and the visitor ignores her and when she’s quiet and sits nicely they throw a treat to her, she takes food but she then continues to bark at them, she will listen to me, however, as soon as the visitor slightly moves, reaches for their cup of tea slowly etc, she lunges again at them. I am really struggling to know what to do next… They don’t stand over her, don’t look at her or anything like that. She’s an amazing girl otherwise… I’m just really struggling and really need help :( As she’s a Romanian rescue, a lot of behaviourists close to home don’t are reluctant to work with her. I actually question if it’s that she’s guarding me? As she is much calmer when we go to a friends house, they can’t stroke her or anything of course but she’s quiet and just lays down and snoozes 🤷🏼♀️

My dog Angel is from Romania and she HATES men aswell she was abused by them and she growls or barks at them on her walks except she only trusts my dad she's always dying for him to come home from work and when he's home shell run outside and wait at the gate then I'll open it for her then she'll run like lighting to my dad and she'll give him the best cuddles

Mine is an angel now too and hates men. She was abused as well, even had her beautiful tail chopped off. I’m so glad we took videos from the start. She’s blossomed with lots of love and exercise.

Adopted a male Siberian Husky. I am a male and the only person in the house. He was raised by females. He is 9 months old. He is afraid of me and won’t get closer than three feet from me. I can’t get a leash on him. Not sure how to proceed. Any advise?
@JulieDeuxFois4 жыл бұрын
I hope you guys have started bonding since then! I would suggest having him on leash with you all the time, so that he understands your leadership. He is probably also anxious, hormonal and under-worked? Many huskies need at least 2 hours of active walks per day (with a filled doggie backpack for extra challenge). Perhaps it is time for him to get neutered. Thunder jackets can help too. Provide lots of bones too :)

What if the dog starts to seek strange men because he thinks he would get food? That could be a problem while on walks, or with visitors etc.
@southenddogtraining17 жыл бұрын
Emma Š. On a walk your dog should be walking to Heel, that way your dog has clear instructions and should not be seeking out anything. If the dog sees people as a food source then they will have a better reaction then if they see people as a negative. Once the dog is relaxed then there is no need to keep giving the dog food. In the beginning though it helps
@emmas.10297 жыл бұрын
Thanks.. I mean...sure, it should be walking to heel - it just requires a lot of control over the dog and the owner herself because at first he dog is conditioned to be excited when it sees a man and then to get on the opposite side - to relax and stay calm. That seems to be a lot of work for the owner (in the first place), even though the dog might walks to heel all the time. (And then we are at the point where it (again) shows how "fixing" a fearful dog is so much about other parts of it's and it's owners life.)... Anyway, thanks for your answer.

Good point. I could imagine some dogs would be in danger of becoming dependent on the reward and freak out in it's absence. With dogs seeking the reward, I'd be happy with that and just layer in some obedience once the dog was confidently seeking people. Pulling back and over confident dog is much easier than building one up.
