First broadcast in February 1989, this episode from the second series of BBC Radio's anthology strand Fear on 4, is a highly atmospheric tale of three motorists stranded in a blizzard. Having abandoned their cars, they search desperately for shelter, but soon come to realise that they are not alone, and something is waiting for them in the depths of the snowstorm...
Wintry rather than Christmassy (though the distinction may not have existed in the minds of many British listeners), this story was selected for a repeat broadcast in the run-up to Christmas 1992. Successful horror novelist Stephen Gallagher wrote this episode, and to my mind it seems to take inspiration from Conan Doyle's 'The Captain of the Pole Star'. See what you think.
