This is the ultimate Tier List for Fear the Walking Dead Season 1 through Season 8. This is my personal ranking and what I look for in a compelling season of TV. FTWD Has been a wild ride, and one that I’m glad is over, but I’m excited to be ranking each season!

Yeah I think it would of been really cool but Im kinda glad they didn't. We kinda got a glimpse of the whsipers backstory even if it was just with aplha on tales of the walking dead. I loved the show following madison, nick and overall just the clark family.

I felt like this show had many good plot points that either wasn't executed right or had the right idea but just couldn't get it right. season 8 plot points were cool but was executed so poorly. I was so mad becasue they broke up sherry and dwight then in the season final they get back together? it was overall confusing. I love your takes though thanks for responding

Seasons 1-3 as a whole was great story telling. Season 2 was slow but holy crap the character development was S tier in that season

I really loved the season 8 episode about morgan returning to his home beside sherry and dwight. Then they try to replicate that with the sanctuary episode and fail

1) Season 3 - 5/5 2) Season 1 - 4.5/5 3) Season 2 - 4/5 Large-ish Gap 4) Season 6 3.5/5 - Only good thing from the geniuses Ian and Andrew. Like this season is good overall but so damn overrated. Best of the Morgan bunch but still not great. Huge Gap 5) Season 7 2/5 6) Season 4 2/5 - Hard one to rank because the first half is sort of alright but the back half is like not even TV. 7) Season 8 1/5 8) Season 5 1/5 This show was a literal chore to get through post-season 3. Very sad that they never let the show get good again and recover before killing it. They had 4 seasons in which to fire Ian and Andrew and try and fix it but it was literally way too far gone by the ending. The real Fear ended many years ago. Whatever this variation was finally ended without ever getting good. I have never in the history of television seen a show that was so good get so destroyed. Season 3 was legitimately some peak television from every standpoint, the acting and writing to the filmmaking and gorgeous cinematography. How that show then became quite literally the worst tv series ever made is insane. It went from great to the worst. Can't think of anything else that had SUCH a plummet. Insane what AMC did to this show. I will forever mourn the Fear that we could have had. We will never know what really was going to happen to those characters and what stories we would have had. So upsetting. Also if you think about it all the Post Season 3 Villains, except Teddy, all had the exact same motivations and it is so cringe. Simply, they are all against the "help everyone" ideology and want to kill the group because of it.....how dumb is that, Season 6 was the best iteration of this in Virginia and then Teddy was finally a different villain who was just batshit but it was still a bit silly, Teddy was the best though, but writing and filmmaking wise Season 6 still doesn't come close to Season 1, 2 or 3 although it was finally enjoyable watchable and maybe even good. I think season 6 only stands out because of how truly awful the rest of Seasons 4-8 really are and if you take it on its own and watch it against Seasons 1-3 you'll see it isn't as good as those seasons but is still good and enjoyable, its cos it is sandwiched between 2 awful seasons either side. God, Morgan, Ian and Andrew and Scott Gimple are the worst things to ever happen to this show. Doubt Ian and Andrew are getting to work in writing ever again.

I believe morgan couldve been great but they didn't know how to write his character. He had too many changes in ideology, moral code and ethics. Super weird. Hes a great character but only in TWD original show.

I realize you weren’t saying season 7 was good but I think as season 7 was the worse. These writers constantly wrote themselves into corners they couldn’t get out of. So many examples, Daniel’s Alzheimer’s, Charlie killing Nick but accepted into the group, milk under the sub’s floor, Alicia and Strand all out war, not to mention the endless hand of god, nick of time, random hero saves these characters experienced 2-3xs per episode, but the worse thing they could have done was turn a zombie apocalypse into a nuclear/zombie apocalypse. The world was already a place that was hard enough to survive in and too often our suspension of disbelief was stretched to the max, but then they doubled down and it got cartoonish. The nuke with zombies is an extinction level event for anybody in that radius, if not the blast and the radiation, the fallout would make survival impossible, no food, no water, no safe shelter. So what did the writers do? Bunkers, Hazmat suits, Geiger counters, strawberry farms in the middle of it all. The premise is so implausible that nothing good could come from it. That’s why imo it’s the worse season. Nukes would have made a fine ending to this show but they had trouble telling a good zombie story, they had no chance after the bombs blew. Imo.

Great video and I think you nailed it on the rankings! I'm a HUGE TWD fan and I only recently heard about the original plan to have the Clark family turn to villains. That could have been awesome! Also your Whisperer Theory is kind of mind blowing! It would have been crazy for Madison to become Alpha and they probably could have even timed it out perfectly ending fear and crossing over to the main Series in season 9

That’s the walking dead spinoff I WANTED to see!!!! Could you friggin imagine??? I think there were character similarities between Madison and Alpha. Kim Dickens as alpha (in my opinion) would’ve been significantly better casting than Samantha Morton (not to say she was bad at all, cause she was great), but Madison’s personality already felt very reminiscent to Comic Book Alpha! Would’ve been truly amazing to see

fear is such a tragedy to me. it started out so good, i loved seeing the initial fall of society and the relationship aspects between the clark family. then it just became “the rise of morgan” and completely lost the identity that it formed. abysmal writing, shitty acting from the d-listers, major characters getting snuffed out in the most disrespectful way. fear just became a genuine horrendous viewing experience, and that disappoints the fuck out of me

Something that bothered me about this show that I've never seen anyone mention. I disliked how quickly everyone just adapted to the apocalypse. Like, the apocalypse happened, society collapsed, everything ended, and no one mourned the past world at all. Things just ended and it became about survival of the fittest. That wouldn't happen in real life. Maybe that's the endgame, but there would be a transition period. The transition period is the zombie apocalypse story I've never gotten and have always wanted. Both Fear and the main show Walking Dead skipped over it, I feel. Imagine the zombie apocalypse happens. Society falls. Electricity goes out. No more internet, no more smartphones. No nothing, never ever again. Your friends are dead, most of who you've ever known are dead. How would you feel? In that moment. That's the story I want. In the Walking Dead universe everyone just seemed pretty chill about it.

I honestly loved the later seasons of ftwd, with season 7 being my favorite one. Obviously i dont say that season 4 or 5 were good, but seasons 6,7 and 8 were definitly better. I also loved the villains in the last 3 seasons. Virginia was amazing, teddy was impossibly an amazing villain but he could have stayed longer. Then you got victor strand in season 7 and i see what the writers tried to do with his character and imo, they succeeded. He was always the type of evil leader and he just does the job of being one, so good but i didnt like wes being a villain, it didnt make sense but as we all know, no show is perfect, every show has a mistake. Now season 8 which is very very underrated. I know people were dissapointed with padre not being some super secret CRM community but honestly, i didnt mind. I love padre, i understand their point of view and people hate on it because they wanted something bigger to entertain them. But the truth is, this show is the MOST REALISTIC zombie show. It's hated because twd gave us all the wars and adventures and people wanted the same from ftwd but let's be honest, if a real apocalypse happened, it would be like ftwd. You wouldnt have wars and all like it was shown in twd, it would be pretty boring irl, which ftwd perfectly shows that. And you might say "ftwd realistic?! Nukes arent realistic!" But after some time, crazy people like teddy, would realize that all the powerful weapons in the world are free for them to use, obviously they would go for it well cuz.... it's literally the end of the world. And that's why i love ftwd, it obviously made some mistakes which i think were stupid but overall, i love it for it's realistic approach into the apocalypse.

Anything after seasons 1-3 is just uncanon to me. Ericksons vision and show he started was just turned into the laughing stock of twd universe. Madison nerfed in season 4, Daniel's terrible dementia or what ever it was, Strands back and forth was annoying, luciana barley used, Alicia character demolished in half a season, splitting bullets, stopping a swinging axe with one hand and a fucking stick and all life is precious. It really gets irritating and makes me sick thinking about what we could have gotten with Erickson and what ian and andrew threw at us. Pathetic. Also I feel season 6 is very overrated. I thought it was nothing more than decent

Season 6 is soooo overrated. The first half is passable before the second half descends into unwatchable territory again. How anyone thinks it’s on par with season 3 is beyond me.

@Sentient_Zee agreed 100% morgans obvious plot armor was annoying af also. Not to mention the terrible finale. And " in dreams" was just fucking unwatchable lmao. Season 6 isn't even close to seasons 1 -3 imo.

Honestly I find Season 6 to be a bit overrated, I’ve even seen people saying it’s better than S3, it’s not even better than S2 or S1. It has some good episodes don’t get me wrong but 6B was kind of a mess especially with how they wrapped up the nuke storyline. Despite Teddy having a good actor I think he’s a bit too cartoonish for TWD and he didn’t leave much of an actual impact. Nearly nobody relevant getting killed in the nukes besides Dakota who everyone hates was extremely underwhelming.

Season 6 is a good season, but not nearly as great as people make it out to be to me. There's some really good episodes, but the season starts to fall when John dies. It's not his death, it's the circumstances around his death. Plus they bring back the worst elements of Morgan's character (preaching peace and letting dangerous people live) in dreams is terrible and the last two episodes bring the season down so much. Also I did like Teddy, but I agree they did kinda make him cartoonish.

@@dwightyboy5324 personally I’m not against how they killed him off, I was never a big JD fan and it was a good way to establish how psychotic and disturbed Dakota was. I won’t even get into Morgan because he’s easily one of the worst twdu characters, was never even much of a fan of him on the main series. Alicia should’ve been the leading character atp, not him.

@@ItsMikeMatthew I didn't mind Morgan that much on the main show. I thought his character was interesting enough there but in Fear he's such an annoying character. I get annoyed when people act like he gets hated on way too much, but the character keeps making bad decisions and his dialogue is terrible. I wasn't against John dying, but the lead up to his death was terrible. I just didn't buy John being suicidal and not wanting to rescue June, plus I got annoyed how he was murdered by Dakota and how she was spared just because she was a child and she clearly didn't mind killing other people and even murdered someone before she killed John.

Fear 601 is my favorite episode in the entire walking dead universe; just so goated imo seeing morgan taking on emile one handed and faking out virginia with his zombified head while riding off on a horse has got to be the most badass thing ever. Peak Morgan, too bad show went to crap again not too long after that. 😅😢

I, unironically, have a certain affection for S7. I related it less as a Fear season and, instead, let it be what it was - a live action screen adaptation of Final Fantasy 6 (3 on SNES North America). I swear, if you've ever played it, it makes total sense. To hell with continuity as a show. That was already flushed by that point.

My list would probably be; THE GOAT: Season 3, Season 2, Season 1 PRETTY GOOD: Season 6 AVERAGE AT BEST: Season 4 WASTED POTENTIAL: Season 7, DOG SHIT: Season 5, Season 8

OMG, what a great video and list overall. I completely agree with you. But I do think that the first 3 seasons, or at least the third season, it's even better than a lot of TWD seasons. And the reason is that what the great Dave Erickson made felt so real, literally like a real apocalypse, and this point for me is really important. The Troy's family settlement, The Luciana's colony, the stadium, the yacht, the mexican hotel, it was incredibly unique. What a shame what happened to the potencial better show of the franchise

I think S3 of Fear is better than S7, S8 and S10 and maybe S11 of TWD but the characters just arent as compelling as rick, daryl, carl, michonne, carol, etc etc. Madison, Nick andd Alicia, along with Troy are about it for me.

So many issues after season 4. So many inconsistencies. They butchered the original characters. Alicia went from growing into a strong and capable woman into a zombie pacifist that paints trees only to then get bitten because she somehow thinks the walkers still retain their personality. Then you have daniel and his plot driven dementia. Hes also far too leniant and less violent than his early self without much explanation. Strand flip flops every season, luciana is just luciana and madison becomes Morgan 2.0.

If they knew nick and madison were both leaving the show my idea of what the writers shouldve done is have them both die around the same time maybe because of those rv people that were stealing all the supplies then alicia attempts suicide because shes lost everyone she cares about. she tries to shoot herself in the head but strand stops her barely maybe with her surviving a shot because of him. Then they do a time jump where they met up with morgan but theyre completely villianized by the apocalypse. Morgan couldve spent the second half of the season waming up to the group and reminding them of who they are. Instead of killing nick in the third episode and then showing him in flashback sequences after

I might be in the minority here but I think Season 2 is the best. I love the locations, cinematography, atmosphere and the variety of different bad guys instead of the usual Walking Dead template of 1 bad guy per Season and it really amped up the horror and bleakness of the situation like our heroes go to an island and see a family, trying to survive but not much hostility, tensions rose, then the family drops a bomb on the group, saying this place is not safe at all, we're the only ones left, it's completely overrun.

I stopped watching the show after S3. The minute I saw Morgan taking a dump in S4, I knew Fear had gone to shit. The show didn't look the same and looked so cheesy with the new characters like the guy in the wheelchair and the trucker lady. Even the intro was different. It went from looking like a horror show to Little House on the Prairie. They should have just cancelled the show and create a new Walking Dead with Garret Dillahunt. I think they could have made a zombie western with him. At least that would have been cool and interesting. It makes no sense bringing Morgan over. His character was supposed to get killed in Alexandria. Just finished watching the first 3 seasons again and it was better than I remembered. I think that is the ideal way to watch. Actor playing Travis didn't want to leave, but maybe play a smaller role. When he joined Avatar, the producers didn't want his schedule interfere with Fear's schedule, so killed him early. I don't think he liked that, but understood. His death didn't affect the show though because Madison and the two kids were able to fill the void along with the new cast added. His death was like the end of a chapter for the show and a start of a new. I think your list is pretty spot on. I can see they were trying with S6, but was not interested in the new Fear. I like both John Glover and Nick Stahl as actors and they did a good job. I still don't know how Madison survived the stadium though.

If I was the season 4 writer, here’s what would happen: There would be no two year time jump so Morgan would arrive to the stadium with Duane. The vultures would show up at the end of the first episode. Charlie would not be in this season. Throughout the first few episodes there would be flashbacks to the dam showing, how our leads survived, how Daniel and Abraham met, and briefly that Troy survived. There would also be a lot of scenes of Madison establishing the Stadium, and the main characters finding out about it. There would also be an explanation for how Luciana returned. During the first half of the season Nick would have to dress in walker guts a lot more to get supplies for the vultures and Madison would see him do it. In the mid season finale Madison creates conflict with the vultures which ends up causing the death of Nick by the hands of the main vulture. After this event Madison goes missing and strand becomes the new leader. In the second half of the season the stadium starts to really suffer and the vultures take control. In the penultimate episode it is revealed that Madison became a whisperer and is using Nick as her whisperer mask. With Madison as a whisperer now, she gathered a hoard which is headed toward the stadium. In the season finale: Alicia, Strand, Daniel, and John escape the stadium but get separated, Duane gets bit, Madison is lost in the crowd of walkers, and clear Morgan is born leading to the deaths of, Sarah, Wendal, June, the vulture leader, and many other vultures. The season would close on the same clip of the stadium full of walkers just like how it started.

Im at s4e8 I don't wanna keep watching and seeing that s5 and 8 is worst and the only good season left is s6 make me wanna stop it I don't want to watch 50 episode just to have 1 single good season

My only disagree is S4 should be under Wasted Potential tier because the baseball stadium arc is decent but killing off Nick was the big mistake, even if he wanted to leave, it was sooo poorly written. But aside from that, they introduced one of the best characters, John Dorie and his love story which is beautiful. I cant place it in dogshit for those reasons. Everything else you placed perfectly

My list: Dog Shit: Season 4, writing was bad and the decision to kill 2 Clark's off in this season was just dumb. Episode 1 was really good but other than that....well yeah 😂 Dog Shit: Season 5, writing was still bad, it was really boring. Lame villains. The only episodes I truly liked was episode 3 and 13. That's it. Wasted potential: Season 7, I think this season had a strong start for episodes 1-3 but episode 4 I think just fell off from there. I do like other episodes like episode 7 and 12. Episode 14 and 15 was just a joke. The finale was decent but..yeah. liked Madisons return tho. Wasted potential: season 8, had so much going for it but Padre, shrike and Crain ruined it for me. I do like episode 4, 8,9 and the finale. There's some other decent ones but a lot was just bad. I loved Troy Otto tho. The stuff constantly happening off screen was annoying as hell. Alicas return was good tho. Average at best: season 2, this season had s strong start and a strong end. I think it gets slow around episode 9-12 but the majority of it I liked. Pretty good: season 1, I think it did its job and I love the finale. It told the outbreak of LA really well. And the ending was epic. Goat: season 6, this season was awesome, had a great start and end and everything in between. Had great arcs and good storytelling. Goat: Season 3. The best season of fear.

I don’t really get why people hate s4 and s5 so much I think they are pretty good s5 is maybe a bit slow but not awful and not the worst tv show I’ve ever watched and season 4 is really good almost as good as season 2 and 3 I know I’m alone with this opinion

Honestly, i found season 5 pretty good. 5A was amazing, gave us new look onto the apicalypse. And 5B maybe it wasnt amazing but the logan thing was only like 4 episodes long and then you have the virginia which made it more interesting. About season 4, 4A was also pretty good but made some dumb mistakes. And about 4B, it's very bad and boring, i dont find it good at all. So imo, season 4 was not that good but season 5 was underrated.
