Fearless and Fierce: Part I of Sophia's Unforgettable FIA F3 Macau World Cup Adventure

Macau 2023 was a highlight. It was my first race with Van Amersfoort Racing in FIA Formula 3 and I'm delighted to be competing for the Dutch team of Fritz van Amersfoort and Rob Niessink. I know a lot of the people there from 2018, the first race with my teammates Noel Leon (Mexico) and Tommy Smith (Australia). Noel won the EUROFORMULA Championship this year and was previously a Red Bull Junior. Tommy is extremely experienced in Formula 3 and it's a pleasure to race here with the guys.
There were also some returnees from Formula 2 and other series on the grid, such as Dan Ticktum (Formula E and Macau winner 2018), Richard Verschoor (Formula 2 and Macau winner 2019), Zane Maloney (Formula 2) Marcus Armstrong (Indycar USA) and others.
I'm really happy with the result, even if it wasn't the top 10. After all, I had a 13-hour operation exactly five years ago on 19 November 2018 and was battling paraplegia. The FIA F3 is extremely close. Macau is a big casino. The decisive disadvantage was being last in the pit lane. That means you have all the drivers in front of you at every red phase. If something happens, your lap is ruined. For this reason, the painstakingly saved second set of new tyres in qualifying was left without even one free lap. A lot more would have been possible. In the final, the race was prematurely cancelled due to the red flag. It would easily have been enough for the top 10, because the slipstream would have been on my side in the final laps. What remains is P11 and best VAR car. Nothing broken, others were in the wall. 323.3 km/h top speed record. All in all, a super, simply very special event. Macau is simply the coolest racetrack.
