If sehwag had played another 30 or so test matches then he wud have scored a few more doubles or maybe even reached 401 and bought down Lara from top of the list. Sehwag played at a time in ind cricket where competition was extremely tough and you had to prove ur mettle by playing first class, list a cricket for many years b4 getting a chance to play for national side. Another way to enter national team at age 19 is to win youth world cup. Back in the 80s , selection was more state dependent. Maharastra enjoyed most of the seats in playing 11 , even others like coach , manager were also from there. In mid 90s, it was karnataka . I think in 98 there were some 8 players from Ktk. Each players pulls in his team mate from ranji tournament even though there were other good players. That changed post 2000.

Like how you play cricket also, if you bat like the orthodox players then u would like Tendulkar dravid pointing etc. But if you like to score runs quickly and bat with all Ariel shots then sehwag, gilly , Gayle , k srikanth etc. If u like wristy sniwey type of batting then azar, laxmen, anwar wud be ur favourite. Personally I feel if a batsman can score triple century , play test like T20, hit sixes off pace and spin bowlers then sehwag is no.1 and vivid Richard's no.2.
