We have a ton of gun laws that would literally get guns off the street, but it's safer for the ATF to raid a suburban house than to patrol and raid inner city areas full of violence. When was the last time the ATF set up a checkpoint in Chicago, LA, or NYC and started searching people for illegal possession? Are they raiding the houses of known felons?

@phild8095Ай бұрын
I'm an old engineer who has studied history and a few other things on the way. Here's a Boomer rant on the "rumble". The numbers come from analysis of civilian deaths in various wars, insurrections and ethnic cleansing from the past 80 years coupled with estimates for urban vs rural, rate of government dependency for food, shelter and such, estimates of people skilled raising food. Normal death rate in the US between two and three million a year. A civil war in America, first year ten million dead of disease, exposure, malnutrition, poison and no outside help after a disaster. After four years, one hundred million non-combatants million dead. That's about 30% of the population. These are conservative numbers. And after the war ends, that two to three million a year would stay at ten million a year for at least a few years. Epidemics of childhood diseases would spread again. Last case of polio I personally remember was 1965, a kid named David in second grade. Polio, measles, diphtheria, cholera and other diseases America hasn't seen in nearly 4 generations would be rampant. Money would be worthless, all those bank accounts, CD's, 401k's and Roths would be useless. Infrastructure, well, without the normal repairs, 3 percent of everything would fail in four years. But there would be people who with the best of intentions would destroy communications, electric grid, pipelines for petroleum and natural gas, bridges, dams, locks, harbors, refineries, railroads, government buildings, hospitals, subways, airports and so on. Who would be involved? Anyone with an axe to grind, and there's lots of them out there. Racists, pro 2A, anti immigrant, immigrants, religious extremists from all sides, cults, anti-technologists, inner city gangs, small town militias, anti-Boomers, socialists, anarchists, preppers, vegans, anti abortion, pro abortion, then you have the foreign interference and peacekeepers. Everyone from NATO and UN peacekeepers, Mexican and Colombian cartels, China, Cuba, ISIS, Russia, Hamas and Hezbollah would want a piece of the action. They would all be glad to shoot, rape, loot, spread disease and poison, blow things up. Who would win? India? South Africa? Israel? Indoneasia? New Zealand? Certainly not anyone in the US. It would be the worst case of unintended consequences the US has seen. Whoever calls for a civil war and initiates it will go down in history with people like Slobodan Milošević, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot and Adolf Hitler. And because the US is rated so highly on charitable donations and foreign aid the famine would be worldwide. And there will be no Marshall plan to rebuild America such as we did for Europe after WWII. The civil war in America would lead to worldwide chaos and bring about a one world government even faster. But go ahead, train for it, publish manifestos, stir things up. Maybe that's what this country deserves at this point is to be reduced to a third world shithole.

Professor Janney, at one of my Almas Mater, is right to be fearful. But from my readings of academics who study civil wars historically, consensus is, in the event, there will not be armies massing for the murderous charges. New tactics. Rather, more likely will be violence on more individual bases. Several points here. I will not judge, but there clearly seems to be a greater tendency of one side to turn bad feeelings into action, than the other side. Likewise, one side has much more access to, and knowledge of, weapons. Finally. most folks have watched individuals in the media, academia, government and their own communities, to know where target may exist, in their own minds. Many folks have even been cancelled, again more by one side than another. This is my biggest fear. Harm in the middle of the night. Let's all hope that rather than doubling down on silly unproved ideas, things will settle down, so that our still robust democrat institutions can do their good work instead, peebles. @@proudsussexer what exactly is a pack of lies? I posted a comment just now that was censored, so hoping this one takes. Here's a list; Intolerable Acts, Closing the Port of Boston, stopping settlement beyond the Proclamation Line of 1763, restoring the fortress of Louisbourg to the Frenxh after King George's War (a nest of pirates which New Englanders captured on their own, and we all had to do it a second time in 1758 thanks to fools in London), garrisoning troops in or houses, and finally attempting gun confiscation on April 19, 1775. Yeah Parliament displayed awesome leadership over the American colonies. The only nice thing I can say, is that it was likely better living under George III than under Biden and Harris. At least George III didn't send 87,000 new IRS Agents to control every penny we earned, and didn't flood us with foreign invaders.

Identity politics is a big thing, a warped political ideology. America they say is a multicultural society; yet they say America is still “too white”, as if that is anti-exotic or an impediment to the good society. What would it take to create a United States of Europe? A necessary enterprise would be for the EU to have strong external borders. But the EU does not and so its mantra of “ever closer union” is like a stuck record as confidence in the future ever diminishes in Europe. The dream of a United States of Europe quietly dissolved some time ago. For a (continued) harmonious United States of America, strong external borders would be essential. Both Republicans and Democrats would have to agree on that. As things stand, with a mighty leaky border, the USA is in ever closer disunion. And it seems it is so just because identity politics rails against the “still too white” USA. That’s a terrible conceit and anti-civilisational. Moral grandiosity in action!

The only major stumbling block in America right now is whether Americans agree across the political spectrum that it needs a strong border. Did 9/11 mean nothing? One thing Tony Blair was right about was that if al-Qaeda (remember it?) could have used a nuclear device on American soil, it would have done so. If America is to remain being a light unto the world, a beacon of freedom, then it needs to act like a sovereign country in charge of and watchful over its own borders. That does not mean America would not be open to those who are persecuted and in need of asylum. And that does not mean that America os closed to immigrants. But a first duty of government is to protect its own citizens.

This is a much better comment than I expected it to be and I respect that a lot considering your take at least appears to have the correct amount of nuance to me. The hatred for immigrants in America (and everywhere) makes no sense. More immigrants come into a country the better it is doing economically and the vice versa is also true. They ain't coming in and stealing jobs bcs there's still millions of openings, companies just aren't hiring bcs they have less trust in who they hire these days. And where immigrants are hired, there is an objective net increase in tax revenue and productivity. Though, yes, there shouldn't be willy nilly, let literally everyone in bs, immigrants are almost always a net positive on any country they come to.
@rustshoo50684 ай бұрын
@@gaybowser4967 another reason for strengthening borders is to cut down on the drugs smuggling. The thing about the jobs being there: well, what kind of jobs? Are green policies and going full on net zero going to put a smile on the faces of immigrants with their strong and willing arms? Frequently the green activists in Europe are almost always white. The way they carry on, blocking roads and disrupting sports events, you’d think they are saying that no more strong and willing arms are needed, as in “We must cut back!” As in, “Ye immigrants, there are no jobs for ye!” Industry, construction, infrastructure: they all need oil and strong and willing arms. It might be not so much a surprise to see the settled cousins and ethnic kin of American nationality of those who seek to emigrate or break into the USA, vote for Trump. Especially if big business gets behind Trump. The key is whether Americans of every political and religious persuasion are prepared to recognise that America does not need to apologise for its past, and recognise that America was and should continue to be a great country that is a beacon of freedom and enterprise. To a degree the world must adapt to climate change. Why are we told we must all adapt to everything and everyone else EXCEPT climate change?
