In my experience, the Feather Popular is an extremely mild razor that depends on the super-sharp (and expensive) Feather blades to do most of the work. I've never been able to get it to work properly on my extremely course beard hair. However, by pairing it with softer blades like Sharks or Astras, I've found it a wonderful razor for shaving my head with.

Gotta love ppl with ‘easy’ beards shaving. It all looks so easy. Whilst the act of DE shaving is easy to me, there is no way I could do my face and especially chin, like you do Geo. My chin is a rock hard, wire wool area that would not come off in one pass like that. And that’s with me using a 39C and Astra SP blade. TOBS is awesome. That is my only shaving cream now 😀👍🏻

As far as I know, feather DE razor blades are sharper than astra. The sharpest of the bunch actually. I too have a very strong hairs, and have no problem whatsoever with feather blades. Others not so much. Tried derby (absolute horror, intended for light bearded men), gillette platinum (not bad) and astra (also not bad). The down side is that it mercilessly cuts off all uneven spots on your face. Try it.

The general claim is that traditional razor blades, as opposed to multi-edged cartridges, do not pollute the environment with tons of plastic, which is, however, thwarted in the case of razor blades supplied in plastic boxes. Therefore, I highly appreciate your great idea of utilizing the empty boxes as used blade disposal banks, which gives them sense.

Can someone help me? I plan to buy a straight razor.. What other things would I have to buy to use it for a long time? For strop and honing? Can I maintain it myself my whole life? Or would I have to give it outside for sharpening?
@Nights_eye_puppets4 жыл бұрын
A strop is important to maintain the edge if you plan on using a “straight“ often. Honing yourself would work in your benefit in the long run as it would save you money. Two stones is all you’ll need to maintain a sharp and working edge. There are some great ones out there that won’t break the bank. I was told by a wise person who’s been in the “game” for a long time that pressure is your enemy when it comes to honing. So take that with a “grain of salt”. Their are many reputable hone meisters out there that can hone your razor using different types of mediums and charge different prices. I’ve had certain individuals hone razors for me in the past and after shaving with them over 30 times have still kept there edge. As long as you have a strop(doesn’t have to cost you much) and your technique is good, your edge will be good enough that your shaves should be comfortable.

Hi Geo!! Greetings from Brazil! Having trouble finding good blades, especially original ones. They sell Feather that comes in a light blue pack, do not work well. Could you make a video discussing original blades/razors vs fake ones? Thanks in advance!!
