@@owensterry29 have you practiced this style at all? I'm only really used to multi-blade razors and I just struggle to comfortably shave against the grain to get that 'baby-smooth' finish, wondering if it's really worth trying to learn a safety razor + this approach
@templeofdelusionАй бұрын
@@offbrandbiscuit There's nothing to learn about safety razor. If you're a lazy bum and you're happy with fastest and plainest possible shave, you can use canned foam, sloppily slap it onto your face, do first pass along the grain as fast as the guy did in the video, rinse your face off and move on, it's practically impossible to cut yourself as there's always more hair guarding your skin. It is literally what I do when I have to leave in 5mins. If you do it against the grain, cartridges can cut you too.

Nice. I learned some things. Thanks! One thing I learned a long time ago from a Gillette publication from the 1960's, was that the beard has different densities. The cheeks/sides of the face and neck are the least dense and should be shaved first. Then the mustache area and finally the chin. The chin is the most dense. By going in this order, at least for the first pass, the more dense areas of the beard are given longer to soften with the most dense area, the chin, being given the longest time to soften. I just became a subscriber. Thanks again.

Thomas Jefferson listen , one of the main things that separates men from boys and men from women is facial hair, why the hell would you try to go against what God created you to look like? There is nothing wrong with grooming your beard and keeping it at a certain lengh of your choice but shaving it all off? That's a big no no.. And a waste of money too all that money adds up, also your cutting up your skin and putting toxic liquid on it every day, when all you have to simply do is let your beard grow and groom it at the barbershop every few weeks vs shaving everyday..

Greetings from Toronto. After watching this video, I went back to watching a few videos by other shavers. I noted that in many cases, the person shaved against the grain with roughly the same angle used for with and for across the grain. To test this technique, I did a two pass shave with a Muhle R41. In the second pass across the grain, I deliberately left some hair. I re-lathered the cheeks for a third pass, and placed the cap next to the skin, then tilted slightly up just until it caught. Sure enough, I got an irritation free BBS shave. This was reinforced by when applying the Alum block, there was no irritation whatsoever, So yeah. It works and. thank you. Moe Go Blue Jays

Thank you for this wonderful video on going against the grain. I have been scraping my skin for a long time when I shave against the grain to get baby smooth skin. Now I know to skim the skin, rather than scrape, and to go with the grain, across the grain, and finally skimming against the grain, and not scraping. Thank you for this simple instruction, man. Rock on!

Thanks for the tip! I’ve been able to shave against the grain on my cheeks for a while. I’ve tried the neck, but get much irritation. I’ll try your method and see how that works! You make it look so easy! Thanks for the great video! Merry Christmas

I think the against-the-grain pass is where I've been going wrong, as my safety razor experience continues to absolutely suck. I've been doing the lay-flat-and-tilt technique against the grain, as well. I think I've been scraping the heck out of my face. Looking forward to doing it this way. I feel like this can still work...

Haha, that was me exactly when I started to watch these videos. Haven't seen my chin for 15 years at that point. The beard is gone now. It took me weeks to adapt to my new face. No regrets.
