Love Angler West vids. Simply put, commercial fishing and the dams are why we are losing our salmon and steelhead.

What’s the purpose of keeping the fish alive on the stringer? I was always taught to bonk/bleed right away if you are keeping it. Seems to me it would just stress the fish out and potentially burn off some of the fat by keeping it alive longer, especially if you are going to end up killing it anyways

To keep the fish as fresh as possible if you don't have any ice on hand while fishing. If you still going to fish for more hours and no ice then you can't de-bone and bleed it because that's it just going to spoil the meat.

A stringer wasn't used in this episode, a live well was used. Stringers can be a problem especially in warm water. If you don't have a live well it's best to bleed right away and put the fish on ice.

Here are some links to the types of rods that would work well for steelhead and stripers fishfield.com/products/okuma-guide-select-pro-rods.html fishfield.com/products/okuma-sst-a-carbon-grip-casting-rods.html

I'm sure any UL trout rod will work for the steelhead down there since theres not much size to them. Striper gear can very a bit but an 8'6" fast action MH rated for 15-25# line would be a good place to start. Size up or down to match your lure/bait, just make sure the rod has a good backbone.
