That is fanTAStic! I love watching you work! I was/am an artist and have had work nabbed by galleries and sold so some small talent is there. But I never had the nerve to do this professionally or maybe I should say as my primary income. One of the things I have discovered watching you work is that you increase your detail and you create several more layers than I did. I would quit before I put in too much and ruined it, but your extra layers add more detail and complete the piece. You don’t teach, you encourage. I don’t study, I just watch. The end result, though, is that I am learning a lot simply watching you. Thank you for your encouragement!!!

As for your 'black fur' suggestion - I'll make that my third video ;-) In the meantime I suggest that you put a base coat down of a warm reddish brown before applying your black, and to create highlights using lilacs, blues, creams and a little white. It will be all in my next video (plus I'll have purchased a microphone so the audio will be better). Best wishes, Kerry xXx

I have been following you with interest and look forward hopefully to you doing more videos

Good morning Margaret, I look forward to seeing your Swallowtail Butterfly once its done 😊 Glad to hear you've purchased a Mahl stick (I wouldn't be without mine) Every time I make plans to complete my next project for KZbin something gets in the way, maybe I should do a quick 'guide to' one for now? What do you think? xXx
@margaretbrownhill11935 жыл бұрын
I think Thst would be a really good idea. I’ve also watched a couple of videos by a person who does wildlife pastel portraits on velour who says that you cant use the best quality soft pastels like sennelier and unison on velour, these are the two brands I have, I have about twenty eight Caran d’Ache pastel pencils, I’ve been tempted to go for a cheaper option but I’m holding out and will get the rest in two stages over the next two months. I know both yourself and Emma Colbert use pastels like unison on velour to good effect and I think this misperception needs to be addressed Thst it won’t take the better quality pastels. In relation to my swallowtail I’m a bit unsure of how to do the mottled effect on the parts of the wings ie pale yellow over black or over the blue at the bottom part of the wings. I think I will cut a strip off the sheet of velour and practice lol, or should I use pastelmat would Thst be easier either way it is a dilemma of how best to proceed lol
@kerrynewell-wildlifeartist5 жыл бұрын
Good morning Margaret, glad you agree with my video 'guide' idea ☺️ As for Unison - I love using them on Velour and have no issues with them. Admittedly Sennelier can be a little too soft, as can Schmincke. Regarding your Swallowtail butterfly, if I were you I'd take a sample piece of each of your papers and try out your selected pastel colours and techniques. I'd probably be drawn more towards the pastelmat if you want your butterfly to be vibrant and life-like. xXx

Hi Kerry😀 do you use a fixative at the end to protect your pastel drawing?
@kerrynewell-wildlifeartist5 жыл бұрын
Hi there Johanne, thank you for watching my videos and for taking the time to leave feedback. Regarding your question, I personally don't use fixative unless the finished painting is being shipped abroad, then I use a light spray coat of Winsor & Newton fixative.

Love your videos! I such bad headaches since drawing i think its because im siting at a desk and probably sloutching.....do you work off an easel standing up then for most of your drawing time? Thanks!
@kerrynewell-wildlifeartist4 жыл бұрын
Candice Curran hi there, thank you for watching my videos and for taking the time to leave a comment - truly appreciated ☺️ Sorry to hear that you are experiencing headaches. 95% of the time I work upright at an easel, so maybe this position could help you, also make sure to have adequate lighting so that you don’t strain your eyes. Do you use spray fixative when it's done, or how do you seal it?
@kerrynewell-wildlifeartist7 жыл бұрын
Hi there Linda, I don't personally use a fixative, but yes you can if it makes you feel more comfortable when framing and hanging your work. I would recommend only using a fixative spray that has been specifically designed for use on pastel such as the one by Winsor & Newton. I hope this information is of use to you xXx

Can you use Panpastels on Velour?
@kerrynewell-wildlifeartist Жыл бұрын
Hi there, thank you for your enquiry - you could use panpastels on velour, but personally I wouldn’t as they may fill the tooth of the paper a little too quickly. I prefer to use Clairefontaine pastelmat paper and now very rarely feel the need to use velour paper. I hope you find this information helpful xXx
@Ms.Mel.Creates10 ай бұрын
I didn’t have luck using the sponges to blend pan pastels on velour but I think I didn’t apply enough before trying to blend it. It worked ok when I used my finger to pick up the pan pastel and applied it directly that way in thin layers then blended.
