Great idea! Is there a reason you didn't simply press the folds of the hole down, rather than pinning? I've never sewn with batting so I thought maybe that material had to do with it?

Only to hold the fabric in place. You could press instead but there is a chance the batting will make the fold not stay in place.

You iron down the opening before you stitch them all together.

Came across an idea from somebody else can’t remember who, but if your seam allowance is going to be quarter of an inch. for example the area that you are going to leave open you actually sew a quarter of an inch perpendicular from the edge down to your quarter inch seam allowance line on both sides of the opening and then, when you go to turn your Fabric down and or batting down to close that hole, it makes it so much easier

Ill try this technique but personalizing with an art using fabric paint. Hope it goes well 😅

What kind of batting did you use?

I used up some scraps so it was probably a cheap polyester batting that I had at the time. Any batting will do.
