Trying a Projector for Sewing Patterns in my Sewing Room - Vankyo Leisure 470 Review

A year later I’m watching this. I’ve used a couple of your patterns so I was intrigued by this. For your situation I think an ultra short throw projector would work. I bought a Ditto after it went down in price and it works for me. Calibration for the Ditto was pretty instant. I have heard of people that do alterations using Inkscape or Illustrator. Nowadays some companies include projector files. All in all I really like using a projector

Can you use your own projector patterns with Ditto? That was my biggest reason not to try it.

@@HeatherHandmade yes. Now you can. That is the other thing that swayed me. Their You Tube channel has tutorials on it, too.

Some interesting thoughts. I don't have kids to sew for, so that didn't occur to me. I also have to alter so I'm in the Sloper school. It does make me wonder if it would be a time saver to project onto a large piece of paper - no piecing - and then do the flat-pattern adjustments. I actually love flat pattern

that is a really interesting idea that I never thought of. instead of printing and taping you can trace onto a paper and then do the alterations. I think this is a good idea and actually might work really well!

@@HeatherHandmade Since you already have the projector, go for it ... I renewed my subscription to Tailornova and am thinking about a projector. Very much on the fence. I'm not easy to fit, and I'd have to do some flat-pattern work on any printout. However, I'd be interested to hear if tracing the full-size (A0) pattern works. @@HeatherHandmade Hi, Heather. I thought I would follow up with you. I did decide on a projector - got a low-end model on Amazon, and it seems to be working fine. If you haven't done any projector work as yet on a real pattern, a couple of tips I found out very quickly on my first effort today. 1) Check calibration grid every time. 2) Use a large cutting mat and secure your paper to the mat with tape or weights or something so it's flat against the mat and won't shift. 3) With paper secured to mat, move the entire mat if you have to adjust for a pattern piece larger than your projection area. 4) Mark interior landmarks, like dart points and notches, but use a rotary cutter to cut on the outside/cutting line. (I traced the cutting line on a bodice front and realized that was a big waste of time.) 5) I bought some packing paper on Amazon which is a generous size sheet - I can piece a half-sheet to the bottom of one (1.5 length) and have plenty of room for the pattern. I have seen the packing paper at Dollar Tree here in my area. I think this is cheaper and more earth-friendly than pattern tracing paper. If you're like me, though, you have rolls of all kinds of pattern paper. Hope this makes sense and helps. I still am using paper right now because it's new to me and I'm at the toile stage, so I want paper on which to mark my notes. I used a Tailornova top pattern which can serve as a master pattern down the road. When I feel pretty sure about Tailornova, I may just go straight to fabric which will be awesome. HI, great video! I just bought both the projector and mount, but wasn't sure if the mount was right for me as I have slant ceiling. You make it look possible as you once you have the projector attached, you move it to the point were the lens is pointed down to the table and tighten it that it could possibly be tilted a bit? Not only straight down? Help appreciated, thanks so much!

Yes, I can point my projector in any angled direction. I can't angle it in an extreme way, but it's a ball connector so it's very flexible to angle.

I do still have the same set up and use it from time to time, but I am old school and just prefer paper patterns. It's nothing against projectors or this set up; I just don't use it as much as I thought I would.@@tammie7504
