Welcome to my Animal Crossing channel. Today we're discussing the latest Animal Crossing going's on! Specifically highlighting a brand new patent submitted by Nintendo, that recently surfaced online!
This new Nintendo patent appears to protect an Animal Crossing New Horizons Island newspaper feature for future use! This alone, along with the time it took Nintendo to file this patent, suggests Nintendo are likely planning to continue the Animal Crossing Island Newspaper feature well into the future, and possibly use it with the next Animal Crossing game too!
Currently there has been no official word about the next Animal Crossing game on Nintendo Switch, or Nintendo Switch 2, however this may well be the first clue that a new Animal Crossing title is actually in the works!
It would be weird to only protect this Animal Crossing feature 5 years in, so the timing is certainly interesting!

i always thought the newspaper in the NookLink was a cute feature but always found it odd it was hidden in the NSO app. id love for it to be integrated as an actual newspaper item you receive in the mail every week in-game! its a cute way to keep track of all the notable things you do everyday. heck give NPCs their own news columns again for more flavor texts and secret codes or something

NEWSPAPER. If we indeed see Switch 2 this year we probably won’t see Animal Crossing until 2027. Especially if this patent marks the early planning stages of a new game. Hope i am very wrong and it launches early next year

See I disagree.. animal crossing is one of the highest selling Nintendo games. It wouldn’t make sense for it to not be a launch or close to launch title! I’d be shocked if it wasn’t released in 2025 or early 2026 🤞

I wonder if they're planning on updating NH when the switch 2 comes out, like how NL got a big update when the switch came out. I know they said they were done with the game, but if they aren't going to have something new near switch 2 launch, they HAVE to do something for one of their biggest titles. My theory on the next game is we are getting something for the 25th anniversary.

Great a newspaper but Off topic Is it just me or would anyone else want a mayor or governor position to be in the next animal crossing game & definitely miss the mini games glad to here it's returning

Mayor not so much but I do miss the mini games too ! It was such a cool feature and I was really sad when I realized they were not coming back. Fingers crossed for the next game !

@@Luxstarchaser Having played the various titles, I definitely DON'T want to be mayor again. I like not being nominated to such an important position in game. Think about what that would mean when we inevitably go MIA for months/years on end. 😅 I miss the mini games though and I wish they would bring back the ability to travel to the big city for various things.

@ Yeah that was the first game where they were made nicer for "the sake of kids" (when really it was probably due to parents' complaints). The last really good implementation of their personalities was in Wild World, but I doubt they'll give them back. 🥲 Speaking of the city, it would be cool if they brought back working at the Roost.

I played Wild Word as a kid alongside with my brother who was around the same age and we absolutely loved it, had no complaints about the villagers personality whatsoever. People can be weird sometimes 🤔 I totally agree about the Roost, I loved it so much ! I remember keeping a chart of what type of coffee each one of my villagers liked, it was sometimes a bit challenging but altogether so much fun

I really don't think we're getting a new AC anytime soon. Not until after Splatoon 4 releases. The same dev team makes both games and they've never worked on both projects at once before.

Perhaps Splatoon 4 will come out later, and the new AC will come first. Last I checked, Animal Crossing is the more popular game, so it could take priority for a new system.

so let me get this straight: they patent the mechanic for getting newspaper and why are they patenting such a thing anyways? i'm certain the patent shouldn't really exist becouse of what if indie devs has been thinking of using newspapers interactable in their game and they didn't know about this? also what about actual newspaper companies? i know i'm overthinking this a fair bit but i can't help to think about it

It would be a patent for a video game mechanic and not for text based media there are many different types of patents so these do not stop anyone from releasing real life news

I'm not sure how patents work but I think all that's being patented is stuff like the specific layout and information contained in it, not the entire idea of receiving a virtual newspaper in a game.

I dont think will be for a new game. they're prolly just updating their patents like they always do. if anything this would just so they can port new horizons to the switch 2, and or if they are working on anything "new" prolly going to have a New Horizons update thats exclusive for Switch 2, maybe something like NH plus+ or something just adding in missing features from the original game. i dont think Nintendo would make a whole new game just yet, feel like they wanna be lazy for a few more years to make a new game.(they seemed like they didnt care about making the original any better for switch 1 anyway.)

what animal crossing needs. 1. Bat villagers, remove the gross ant eaters. 2. Ninendo characters as villagers IE donkey kong, k rule 3. Bigger island maps 2 small. 4. Old game features removed 5. Game consoles as home furniture like in GameCube, N64 games Rareware only fk Nintendo games. 6. Wisp Ghost Furnature. 7. Underground Bunkers.
