Recently, I went looking for a TL-15 or higher burglary safe, ideally with fire rating also, and after some difficulty trying to get a price point to consider, finally found how to search for actual 'burglary safes' (not just 'big box security boxes' that they call safes). I was comparing the American Security TL-15 to the ACME TL-15, and really think the ACME is a better value purchase! I've got quite a bit of 'small item high value' pieces that a 2-cu.ft. safe would work best in protecting, and for $3500, you just can't beat the features! (one small item group I have are a 10-piece identical set of Rolex Submariner watches, new-in-box, I paid $7,100 for in the 1970's...which are worth FAR MORE than that now (a like-new Submariner goes for $20k each now)...you just don't trust collections like that with some $100 'Sentry Safe'!

Most people don't realize how a gun safe kind like a liberty will not stand up to lot of home fires. Read too many forum post about how they opened up their liberty safe after a house fire everything inside was burned up. You discussed having to get into a safe my own safe the dial started give me issues after 20 years of owning it I was lucky enough to get it back open again after several tries. I called a local locksmith who sold the safe I had he came out and serviced the lock. Something probably should be done once in awhile before you get locked out.

Thanks, more people need to be educated as to what features you need to look for in a quality safe - people pay a $1000.00 for a “safe” that they want to protect $10,000 worth of jewellery 😵

The safe in the video doesn't have any kind of "lining" around the inside of the door to help protect against fire. Is that normal? That it can somehow avoid the ferocious heat coming around the seems? Thanks!

Depending on the safe manufacturer, it may not be necessary for the fire rating. High security safe doors in particular are recessed so deeply into the safe's body that it's not needed.

They are both great safes! As of last Wednesday there was only one Hollon MJ 2618 in inventory. If its sold you'll have to wait for a new shipment. The American Security would be custom built for you as well, 5 to 8 weeks delivery. FYI. Hollon is raising their prices April 10th. So if you're going to go that route order soon! acme-safes-for-sale.com/

Thanks I don’t find any dealers have Hollon MJ series I am looking for. Visited local dealer who has AMSEC CF5524 and it has ESL 10 electronic lock. I like the safe and it’s size but not the electric lock. Asked them if it comes with Dial lock I would go for it. Dealer said they will change the electric lock to Dial, will that void any type of warranty? Not sure if Electric locks are reliable in the long run. Appreciate your response..!

@@varun25p If you are going to buy from them, they should be giving you the same level of customer support I am, don't you think? The answer to your question is that if they swap it out, they should be warrantying it. Here's my article on electronic vs dial locks. Have them put an AMSEC rotobolt lock on it. Best of both worlds. www.acmelocksmith.com/articles/safe-dial-vs-electronic-lock/

The Hollon MJ-1014 seems pretty nice on paper but honestly in photos the handle looks like those plastic pull tabs you yank off to open cartons of milk these days. Here you just said the TL-30 doors have solid meaty handles because the door is so substantial. Is there somewhere I can go to see that handle in action and how the door opens with it? And what exactly makes it "a special design burglary resistant handle" which that nice simple metal bar wouldn't be? Part next: On your concrete fill display the inner steel on the left side is much thinner than the right side. Is that a difference between TL-15 and TL-30 or do some TL-30 manufacturers reduce price with that thinner inner wall and just not list it in specs?

Find a local locksmith or safe company that stocks the AMSEC or HOLLON safes and you'll be able to get a good feel for them. Every TL-30 rated safe goes through the same testing process. Did you see our video on safe burglary ratings? kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6aQkqaJbLGXr9U
@TheGroovyJones
@TheGroovyJones 3 жыл бұрын
@@LocksmithRecommended Yes, I was looking at TL-30 for top end protection. Logically I can infer their handle isn't like a pull tab but that's what it looks like to me visually. I normally wouldn't focus on a handle but they make a special claim it's "burglar resistant" without explaining how, it visually appears not as strong as a solid bar or spokes, so it raises questions before I spend that amount of money. Later I found a video showing their TL-15 model where someone used the handle and opened the door so I got a better handle on that (pun very intended). Now it's a full work schedule and the logistics of taking delivery and getting it to a spot inside holding me back from buying.

@@TheGroovyJones I have a TL-30 AMSEC bought it years ago more then I needed but one factor is the weight nearly 4000 lbs can't just slide it around in the garage like a regular gun safe. I wanted peace of mind if all else fails I know the safe will stop them if I have fire I know it will be there. Safety deposit boxes are nice but you really don't have 100% control over that governments have been known to confiscate them it's illegal to keep cash in a safety deposit box read up on forfeiture laws no one is even charged with a crime empty their bank accounts and safety deposit boxes.

AMSEC CF vs AMSEC CEV Which one is better ?

One's a TL 30 and one's a TL15. The TL 30 is better. Now if you meant the AMSEC CE, they are technically equal since they're both tl-15 rated safes. OK so I think I’m starting to see things a little more clearly now about buying a home safe,,,obviously the fire rating is important and burglary rating however,,,,, there is no way in gods name I could have this particular safe your selling here in my home it would probably go through the floor,,, there are weight restrictions I guess for the average homeowner,,, I guess there is no safe that is completely burglar proof we just have to pick the best one we can afford both financially and weight restriction wise and if we have something terribly expensive we may have to rent a lockbox at our local banks,,, if I had a way to accommodate the safe you’re showcasing here I think it would be perfect but there’s just no way,,,I couldn’t even get it up the steps to get it in the house,,, i’m going to have to make a compromise I’ll probably have up to $2000 worth of handguns and important papers some jewelry miscellaneous things possibly some money and silver try to keep the value under $10,000 I guess???anything more than that goes to the bank security deposit box??? That sound right??? Of course another way would be to have the best safe you can in your home and then out in your garage or down your basement and rent a concrete hole saw and install an American security floor safe mabe???idk???

Anything less than tl-15 isn’t even a safe in my opinion. Cordless power tools are so good now that an angle grinder with some extra batteries and a bunch of cutting disks can easily fit in a backpack. These tools can compromise a cheap safe surprisingly fast. Another helpful strategy is to nest safes together. If you have a larger safe, put the most important items inside of a smaller safe inside the large safe. Even if the small safe is a very low security one, like RSC grade stuff you can buy at Walmart, it can provide a boost in security that is impossible to grade based on ratings. It’s one thing to be able to get into a cheap safe with an angle grinder in 2 mins. It’s another thing to be able to get into the same safe with the same tools except now you have to work with one hand through a 12 inch hole in the larger safe wall that already took hours to create. Then if you do get into the second one, you still have to reach your hand in there and pull something out.

@@RedShiftedDollar Actually cheaper to buy insurance for guns though the NRA, and insure the jewelry though home owners policy. NRA insurance is like $100 a year for good size collection. The NRA doesn't underwrite it policy is through 3rd party insurance company but part of the NRA membership. They don't insure collectables regular stuff like most people have best way to go. Then buy less expensive RSC safe keep the kids out of there. Even home alarm usually RSC safe slow them down enough for police to get there if they respond. I use my own cameras sends me text's when someone comes on my property.

Search KZbin regarding the Sturdy Safe on the engineering on how a door on a "safe" should be made. He definitely knows what he is talking about. No relation and don't even own a Sturdy safe.
