Unfortunately a shackle guard doesn’t work. If you can fit the thickness of a cutting wheel between the lock then everything is gone. Thats what happened with my lock at a storage unit. Thickness doesn’t matter the wheel slips in between the lock and what the lock secured to it’s over regardless of your key type. That lock has to be in a Thick lock box.

I bought an open, but locked… American Security (AMAEC)… it’s kinda old. I haven’t seen if there any screws on the inside to take off in order to see the locking mechanism and I didn’t ask because I’m getting so cheap. I’m picking it up tomorrow, with help.. it’s 275lb with the dial lock. Is it easy for someone who can follow instructions (me) to get to the locking mechanism in this situation? Again, it’s locked, but the door is open. Thanks

Had this installed by Schlage, he left me the manual which has the Program code and two factory user codes. You would think the manual would have instructions how to change the factory user code to a personal code. It does not. I called Schlage and was on hold for over 20 minutes so I hung up and went on KZbin where I found your video. I have not set up wi fi yet so just want to change the code on the keypad for now. Your video is great on instructions though the wi fi app, but wish you showed how to change codes on the pad itself. Again, great video, but can you believe Schlage didn't put instructions on how to change codes on the manual and can't get through on the phone in 20 minutes.

Thanks, good tips. Our renters keep locking themselves out by closing the door with the knob lock engaged. The same local locksmith keeps drilling out the lock. Shouldn't he be able to pick it or use your method to open it? We have to replace the knob lock each time.

When the weak point of your door is the glass panel, reinforcing the screws doesn't change anything. Or if your house has windows. If the plan was to kick your door down, the window was easier to begin with. Also replace all of the screws or none of them. Nevermind that if you only replace some you're still reliant on the small screws - your door will sag as the wood expands and contracts at different rates. You're supposed to replace 2-3 screws at a time so you don't have to remove the whole door.
