The word מָשִׁיחַ (ma'shi'ach = "messiah") is referring to someone who is מָשׁוּחַ (ma'shu'ach = "anointed / dipped") with oil, something that in the TaNaKh, referred to both priests and kings who were anointed for their task. From this came the concept of הַמָּשִׁיחַ (ha'Mashiach - with the definite article) which literally means "the anointed one" - a King that will be anointed by the Spirit of God to rule from Jerusalem over the people of Israel and over the entire world. 🙏
