Edit: (02/19/21) In the video we state that the FTdx5000MP was also discontinued. According to Yaesu they will still continue production of this model. We regret the error.
In recent news, Yaesu announced they have discontinued production of the FTdx3000 HF amateur transceiver. In our livestream excerpt we talk a bit on why parts for the manufacture of these radios are suddenly in short supply.

I use Streamyard.com for my livestreams. It's pretty easy to set up and I find works quite well for my needs.

Whilst on the subject of obsolete radios, lets not forget the FT-817nd and the FT-818? Where is the Yaesu IC-705 killer? The FT-817 is now TWENTY YEARS OLD, launched in 2001. I have a Yaesu FT-817ND (launched 2004) It's OK, but my old eyes would like a display larger than a postage stamp, I'd like some 21st century battery technology too! G7VFY

Where can I find the release from Yaesu on this? I have heard its fake news. I believe you, but where can I read it?

I haven't seen an official release from Yaesu, but Yaesu's national sales manager made a statement that it was cancelled on their Facebook page: facebook.com/groups/yaesuusa/permalink/4202185966477009/ He may have said more in his podcasts, but I haven't listened to them.

The 5000 has been a little more difficult to track down, but Universal Radio lists the FTdx5000MP as discontinued. That's the current model in the 5000 series. www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamhf/0355.html

@@KB9VBRAntennas Ok, so I have spent to much time on this, but I got a little miffed so I followed it through. I joined that facebook page, it took 4 days for my post to be accepted and was deleted after a few people replied on the topic. Looks like John Kruk or some other admin didn't want it discussed. Before it got deleted John said it was not discontinued, but a yaesu rep from the UK piped up and said he was told by yaesu it was discontinued. At the end of the day, it makes no difference to me, my only issue is getting jerked around by them. Not real impressed with the way they handle the official USA facebook page.

I enjoy my ft 450D and my ft 450AT, But I recently purchased a used, almost new FTDX 3000 as well. I use them all and I like them equally as much. They are all keepers. But...hey, I still enjoy using my Realistic HTX 202 that I purchased new in 1993 and it still works flawlessly with no issues what so ever, and my HTX 404 that I purchased a few years later......... Just hate to part with Radio gear.

Sherwood rocks but his numbers mean nothing if I cant get my fingers around the front panel (Ftdx10). I'll be happy to use my Ftdx3K instead.

Ergonomics is a big part of utility. The top 20 transceivers or so on the Sherwood list are all outstanding, so pick one that fits your operating style.

So why has amateur radio rigs become so stagnant? Nothing new coming around unless you count discontinuing some favorites or introducing new low power rigs, maybe occasionally changing something in an already existing rig. Why can't their be an upgraded version of Yaesu's popular 857 mobile? Not the 891 that doesn't have VHF and UHF. With vehicle cabin real estate already in short supply, a single rig that can handle it all would be a huge benefit. Base rigs are less constrained by size, so why not throw a few of those on the market as well? And for corn's sake, why not put some mounting hardware in the box? Spending a small fortune on a compromise rig that doesn't do all that I'd like it to is one thing, but making me spring an extra C-note or two just to be able to mount it is downright criminal. I feel pretty confident that I'm not the only one that would appreciate some new options, especially full featured ones and I know from reading reviews that customers are tired of opening boxes devoid of any sort of mounting solutions. What gives? I know that what I'm talking about can be done because it has been done. Why not bring it back? Does customer feedback mean nothing anymore, or does it just mean nothing compared to profits?

It feels that way. As a radio professional in the military back in the day, why am I favouring buying an old rig.. price mostly. I'd pay fairly good money for a 3 year old rig but actually seems i will end up with a rig from years ago. Needs to be a lower price point than 3 grand or more for a current great rig. I'd love yaesu and the other guys to do some really great firmware and OS updates. I'd not mind paying a hundred pounds for an upgrade like that that refreshed an old rig.

​@@jockmazza They need to do something. They've come out with some new stuff lately but it's nothing really special. Newer screens, but you'd still need to run two rigs mobile if you want the full spectrum unless you want QRP. Rigs that are a decade old are more expensive than when they came out, rigs that were budget friendly that everybody seemed to have and love got discontinued and they call rigs that as big as base stations mobiles. This industry has really let people down. The new rigs don't offer much that the old ones didn't. Maybe a couple more bells and whistles but really, has the quality gotten that much better? Are people making that many more contacts than before? It's a big disappointment.

@@Jason-jd1jv you nailed it my friend. I mean ex cb guy joned the military inc.gchq and NSA..i just agree with u. Either give us amszing kit for 1700 dollars US or make it pay for us to keep our older kit but give us OS and firmware upgraded. Charge us!

Goodbye 3000 & 5000, you will not be missed. Parts not available = soon to be unserviceable? They were meant to be a bit messy if not well matched to a linear amp. The ICOM IC-7100 and 7200 were both supposed to be mobiles. I always fancied the IC-7200 with handles. As for repairs, there are very very few radio hams who have the skills and equipment to do sophisticated surface mount repair. G7VFY

It is not a big loss. FT-DX5000 seems to be an excellent performer based on the Blocking GC and IMD figures. But numbers do not mean that all is perfect, far to be. Indeed, in the field this transceiver is disappointing. The nice band scope is almost useless, and the access to many functions require 4 or more operations on the menu ! Then, under heavy noise, the AGC is not efficient. At last, using an amplifier the processing is almost in ALC (not better on Yaesu FT-DX5000 or FT-950) with no point in Class A. In fact, a mid-end transceiver like Kenwood TS-590SG gives better results ! For short, a so-called high-end transceiver on paper does not mean that it is a great performer in the field

@@marrkparkes3775 no but going by Rob Sherwood #s I have the yaesu 991a which Is even lower on the #s I have a am transmitter 5,5 miles away and it blows out my front end. Station is 50 kw on day power and 10kw at night, 80 over s9 with tuner out of line,in line I get 40 over signal. Building a notch filer to try to knock it down. But if not I'm gonna make a few tuners and start powering my house led lighting 😣KC3ONO
