Hi Jane! Does the Lomi composter use power? My only concern would be the constant AC power drain to compost the food. With the cost of diesel for the generator to run the power that compost would be like GOLD and not that "green". Curious to investigate. Thanks for the suggestion! ⚓️Mark
@jab45132 жыл бұрын
Yes they both use power. No problem when you’re in a marina. Probably not a huge power hog on the generator.
@TheBoomershines2 жыл бұрын
@@jab4513 I wonder how long it has to run a day to break down the food? Really cool.

Been following your search for the last year and enjoy seeing two people so excited and dedicated going through this ordeal. I’ve gone through the same search several times over the 30+ years that we have been boating and loved it every time. So I’ll give you my advice, like the dozens or hundreds of other people already have…….be patient because it will take at least a month on board before you and your crew really understand the boat and their role in this new day to day life. Forget about schedules. Every time I set a strict schedule I invite trouble nearly every time. When friends, guests whoever tell us they would love to see us but they a flight, train, passage THEY have to leave by I tell them this…if you have any must leave by dates DO NOT STEP ONBOARD because once you are on this boat all schedules are off. Other then that expect to take much longer stays then planned in probably the least expected spots. Your family is truly going to have a wonderful life changing adventure. Best of luck

I just went through that process last fall. I feel the pain. It was quite the education. Are you recording your boat with the USCG? They are really backed up and I'm still waiting. Best wishes.
@TheBoomershines2 жыл бұрын
That is good to know. We are indeed registering with USCG so we will brace ourselves for the wait. Congrats on making it all the way thru the process last fall!
@br54982 жыл бұрын
Buy the boat and leave the State, change the name and register the boat with United States Coast Guard not the State also give it a hailing port of some county in Virginia and you’ll never pay taxes on it. “When it comes to taxes it’s not playing the game it’s using the system” DJT
@TheBoomershines2 жыл бұрын
Like we said… so many ways to handle it. Personally we feel the tax man always cometh! We would rather control the narrative and pay in a state that caps the amount. If caught those penalties and interest would make the original amount seem like a cake walk. This is also a “dream trip” and stressing about what bridge tender or dock master might turn us in to taxing authorities (we hear they get a little something for their efforts) us in would make the trip have a very different feel. That’s just us personally though. ⚓️Mark
@br54982 жыл бұрын
@James & Jennifer Reid really, well if your boat has Coast Guard documentation A.k.a. Coast Guard registration and your vessel is out of at home Port or county that is domiciled in for more than 185 days there’s no property tax levy or owed, Not trying to get into a can kicking contest just talking about practical life experience.

I will be retiring in 2 years and want to buy a boat for the Great Loop. If I am paying cash for the boat is it possible to just get liability insurance?
@TheBoomershines2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it is very difficult to make just liability insurance work these days. Marina's want to see a more robust policy (that is if you want to use marina facilities) as well as the fact that many boats with just liability coverage have been sunk from storms and the salvage cost is so high it eats up the insurance companies so they are really putting the clamp on liability only. That being said I am NO expert, in the industry or an attorney so do you own research. I recommend you reach out to our agent Russell Jamieson with Atlass Group. Tell him the Boomershines sent you!
