A washerwoman or laundress is a woman who takes in laundry. Both terms are now old-fashioned; equivalent work nowadays is done by a laundry worker in large commercial premises, or a launderette (laundromat) attendant (Wikipedia). But I overheard that there is a washerwoman still in existence up in the village of Fishing Pond, East Trinidad. So I started my engine and away we went to find her.
Boy, she sure scammed me! Watch to see what happened!

Hello Patrick, thanks for viewing & commenting today. Missed your comments on the last video. TBH rural areas in T&T don't have an integrated sewer system. It's mostly septic tanks with National Regional Corporations operating a septic tank cleaning service. Guess nothing has changed in this regard since 1978 ! Appreciate the info. on the washerwoman but the name Fishing Pond. Wonder if Ministry of Agriculture have info. like the origin of the name. Maybe there's a special specie of fish that live the the area? Seems to me it is an area where they would have been rice planted at one point in time. Rice is something that one rarely see planted in the country any more. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for viewing and taking the time to respond! As like a lot of villages in Trinidad, no history was recorded or if it was it may be lost. Yes you are correct - rice was planted all over Trinidad including Fishing Pond... back in the day. I agree with you - sadly agriculture is looked down upon imo.
