Well done to the Indians on not forgetting their culture and religious beliefs to this day. They stood strong and never converted to the slave masters beliefs.
@RM-yf2lu4 сағат бұрын
@@jussayin548 actually there has been state sponsored systematic attacks on hindu culture from the moment they arrived in trinidad which contunue yo this day. Hence the anti Indian sentiments you see in this comment section

This is rather general statement. Lots were not educated and were street people but other were just tricked in coming. My mother's father was one. He left large volume of writing and also music that he imported. He bought a house, started his own business, bought rice lands and sent all of his kids to high school including his daughters although English was his third language.

Trinidad don't have much Indians... I'm only with less than less than 20% Indian... India is a diversified Society and 33 ethnicities came out of India during their diaspora... Most are Hebrew children that came out of India and also Ishmaelites... Arab-Indian Others were Aryans...

This was a good presentation. A lot of research went into it. I always suspected that Indentureship wasn't too far from slavery. After all, the same colonial masters were in charge and looking for cheap labor.. Would like to hear more of the experiences within the Indo Trini community during that era..

Indo-Trinidadians have a dual identity which obviously drive some of our fellow Trinidadians angry. But they were happy to take what they wanted from our culture and claim it, right? Anyways, we are ethnically Indian and a lot of us are culturally Indian as well. We identify as Indian as well! Not brown or anything else. Indian. I don't see why its an issue with some Trinidadians! Its weird. Its also weird to deny that we haven't tried to preserve the culture. Evidently, we have.

Most of Trinidad's cuisine is Indian. A lot of the musical influence come from Indian rhythms as well. Soca is literally influenced from both African and Indian music. Google it.

So you were just born here and your heart and love is elsewhere? Do you have any idea what you would be if you lived in India today? Have you ever thought of it ? I am sure you are educated abd employed right? Should a woman marry for money yet love and live for her childhood sweetheart ?

Very informative. My grandparents came from India in the latter part of the 1800's but went on to be sold to masters in Guyana. I am sure lots of our relatives were let off in Trinidad, Jamaica and Suriname. Lots of the indians in the Caribbean came from Bihar/UP area. A few came from other places too. Bhogpuri music up to this day sounds very familiar to chutney music of Trinidad, Guyana and Suriname.
