@@TheHandOfGovernment - modern AI was invented at UofT - but Canada is not at the forefront of cashing in. Everybody else is rushing past Canada to help themselves to the fruits of what was invented in Canada. I'd say that means there's something lacking here.

That means every tax age paying Canadian is paying over $230 a year in taxes to support Ai research. I bet you 95%+ of Canadians would decline paying that if they had the option.

We haven’t restricted China from anything why would this be any different? We have a government that’s taxing the crap out of us, part of it is just for feel good environmental policies for carbon pricing. China has 3100 coal burning plants for electricity… if they were to reduce that by 5%, it would exceed all of Canada‘s emissions.. They do not have any carbon pricing at all, yet they’re allowed to put their products on our shelves..

You want to rid yourself from a huge waist of our money? If every province at the same time declared its sovereignty from Ottawa until such time as the Ottawa parliament and senate is dissolved and in its place a hall of nations is constituted of willing constituent nations of the Canadian Confederation. Every sovereign state of the confederation sends a delegation of already elected officials perhaps the over numbered elected official that a representative based government will produce. This being done for every member state. ( hist. province ) Similar with the European government except the representatives are already elected in their own parliaments and only sit when a forum is called in the hall of nations. This way every constituent member state administers its own affairs coming together only for shared concerns. All purse strings remain in the member states. The states will be required to contribute an amount equal to a percentage of their respective GDP to cover the cost of these meetings. This is a free union that is a democratic association of willing member states mandated by each member’s citizen elected representatives.
