Federal C4b coaster siren restoration

This is a recently acquired Federal C4b (painted version of the C5b) coaster siren. It was in pretty bad shape cosmetically but with a little elbow grease it cleaned up nice. It has one of the longest coast times of any siren I have owned.

I timed the wind down using an online stop watch and from the peak pitch at 1:35 I started the timer and I got a 3 minute and 45 second wind down. But you stopped the video before the rotor got to a full stop. Still a long wind down for a vintage siren.

We used these on our detective and undercover vehicles, They were fairly easy to slip in between the grill and the radiator in the old days. I had a friend in the FBI who rigged his to deter unauthorized openings of the hood. In those days many autos had an outside hood opener. He happened to be the Bomb agent, and he was a bit concerned. I was involved in a chase or two with them, and on city streets they worked fairly well. Our squads used roof mounted model 104b and c CAM sirens they were 108 db

I know that same model Federal siren sitting under the hood of our patrol cars got us through many intersections back in the day... The electronics were in efficient with just one speaker then...

I would imagine it would start rolling and growling while driving with the brake disengaged. My B&M would do that on the rig shown on my avatar.
