Framing ebikes as dangerous is beyond absurd. This biggest danger to ebikers is reckless drivers on the road and the complete lack of infrasture. As long as ebikes meet an acceptable level of quality control they are not the issue whatsoever.

Watching tube videos of group rides in major cities. Illegal bikes running lights, racing thru traffic. I expect "They" are doing everything they can to frustrate the law enforcement. When the law decide they will just start taking ebikes away and arresting them. They are hurting the whole hobby... SO... Go ahead and act out, You will not win. Everyone loses.

In half of Europe, those standards are super reasonable given the effecient implementation of urban/transportation planning....Amsterdam/Barcelona/Munich etc. But then you get cities like Dallas, Phoenix, Atlanta and limiting speed/power would put the average ebiker at a greater risk. I see injuries all the time at my place of employment but it's also cause you got 13 year olds riding Surrons at 50 mph on a sidewalk in my neighborhood.

The problem is since 2018 to now in 2024 there are so many more e bikes being used by people that's why there is now more calls for incidents with e-bikes here I never really even noticed any e-bikes back in 2018 but now I see some being used here and there when I go out.

That’s exactly right my friend! Ebikes popularity has grown exponentially. In my bike paths I see about half on regular bikes and the other half in eBikes. I’m sure in not a long amount of time- e-bikes will be more prevalent than regular bikes!

We don't have any roads for bikes where I live. Sidewalks are our only place to ride really. No need for worrying except crossing a street at the corner .. Never had anyone on bikes here I know get hurt in 60 years. Lol

Hi Selena Hope you having a good Holiday. Remember this Winter we was worried about regulation and nothing really happened outside of batteries being better tested. Which is a good thing. It too late for them to regulate the speed of these bikes. It would ruin to many companies. Just make everybody wear a helmet and move on and enjoy the ride.

Ebikes arent dangerous until ypu trust a car driver to not run you out of pavement and send you cartwheeling over the bars stating that they were watching me wreck and wasnt sure if i fell asleep or what caused me to crash. The EMS asked me my name what year it is and who the president is to which i answered depends on which side you are on and who you believe. To which he said thats a perfect answer so he decided that was enough questioning. Im still deaing with a broken clavical (collar bone). I added that the guy in the car lied as well as a politician, and might want to consider a new career that suits him better than professional driver. Ebikes are safe as the rider and surroundings allow them to be.

What is going to happen to all the people (myself included) that bought ebikes under the then current laws. All the money that we spent on our bikes & now they are going to change the laws & tell us we can't use them. Also ebikes technology has made great strides in the past few years. We now have bigger batteries that give us over 100 miles in range, 4 piston hydraulic brakes for safer stopping, bikes with larger more efficient motors that allow us to ride safely in traffic. How about all the people who use their ebikes to commute to work. They may have no other means of getting to work. How about all the jobs being created in the U.S. in new ebikes companies & bike shops being set up to service them. These new laws will throw many of them out of business. How about all the environmental concerns with getting people to stop using gas powered vehicles because they pollute the environment. Now that people are switching to ebikes these new laws will put them back in cars. It is counterproductive.

They won't ban them. They will require class 3, or any bike with 750 watt motors or above, to be insured, licensed, and registered. Some states like NJ already require this.

So what are the rules pertaining to e-trikes? Surely not that strict on them. It's just some politico trying to break his chops on this piece of legislation. 41 people. That doesn't sound like a lot to me. I bet more people die from regular bike accidents than 41. They need to quit jacking around with this kind of crap and fix the economy or a whole lot of more important things than this. But I agree, wear a helmet. A life time friend of mine was checking his mail on a little 3 wheel electric scooter and turned too quick, hit his head on the concrete and died . And that was just a little scooter.

Europe 250W Canada. 500W U.S.A. 750W That’s quite a range of what is allowed for different regions. I always wondered how 750 watts became the legal limit for eBikes in most of the United States? I live in an area that is very primitively paved and steep in every direction. There’s no way an electric bike of less than a 1000 watts could climb this steep rugged landscape.

We worked hard as a team to help the community and the country where we could. I'm not up to this fight though, I don't think there is any winning in this and many fights headed our way. I'm not trying to be negative, just using my experiences of 60 years to see things for what they are. There was a time when things would get bad, but you knew things would turn around and all would be good. What we are seeing now is different and I just hope (genuinely) people prepare themselves.
