Ohio and New York issued their volunteers and state militia shell jackets I believe. But I think they were replaced with sack coats later in the war

Yes your right Ohio and New York had state Jackets. They were only replaced by sack coats if their state jacket was beyond repair.

i inherited a really nice Sack Coat from a friend of mine after he passed away (23 Years young) i wear it constantly, now im going to really look at it and see if i can find any marks on it, give me a clue where he, or the person he bought it from may have got it.

There are several sack coat patterns commercially available of varying quality. The best (in my opinion) is the pattern offered by County Cloth. While not 100% perfect, it is head and shoulders beyond the others.
