Nice video. The Federal Flitecontrol 8 pellet low recoil tactical Law Enforcement Buckshot is my first choice for home defense. The flitecontrol wad enhances the accuracy. There is a tendency with nine pellets of buckshot to have one flier.

It's honestly pretty irrelevant in most people's home defense reality. Flite control won't even begin to pattern, within typical interior spaces. Flitecontrol really shines if you live on a larger property, or want to carry a long gun in a vehicle. Outside of the obvious benefits to LE and security applications.

It isn't irrelevant to me with a Mossberg M 590 A-1 with ghost sights. Keep in mind my primary carry for 44 years was and is 1911 acp. That tight pattern of this round inside is letting a lot of blood out and a lot of air in.

My HD shotgun has an open choke and with the 8 pellet FC LE all 8 inside go in a gallon sized oil jug at 45 yds! Open choke is best with this stuff. And no Hornady is not the same, it's higher velocity which opens up much faster. The wad is not the same, similar though, but much softer plastic than Federal's FC. Hornady's don't pattern as tight..

It must be the softer plastic wad of the Hornady's that makes it open up sooner to cause the more spread. All else being equal, a higher velocity load should have less spread. Or am I wrong?

@@jamesswitzerjr336 Yup. I was sort of thinking about it in a different way...that the faster the load is propelled, the quicker it gets to the target and the less time it has to spread. But like I said, 95% of the time I'm shooting slugs.

This is basically just like shooting a slug inside of 20 yards, but I can see the benefit of using it between 20 and 50 because you don't have to be as accurate as you would with a slug. Just enough spread to account for minor inaccuracies, but not so much so it's still definitely instantly lethal.

I like this stuff, but it's become a unicorn lately! Give me the Hornady Critical defense 8 pellet, because Its very comparable within 15 yards and I can atleast find the stuff..when I do come across this 1145fps federal copper plated 00bk with flitecontrol wad, it's always the 9 pellet version..again, this 8 pellet load is a UNICORN where I live.

I can't only find the 8 pellet online, even then it's only occasionally in stock at a reasonable price. I've tried the Hornady TAP 8 pellet, it's pretty legit at closer range, but notas good as FFC at distance (in my gun)

@Big Stick Actual yeah FFC is better but hornadys versatite is damn good too within homw defense ranges, which is all I'm interested in with the shotgun. Anything over 25 yards I just use a rifle 🤣

Hornady TAP reduced recoil 00 buck (Blue hull) is supposed to perform pretty similar. it uses the VersaTite wad, but I have read some info online that states it is the same exact wad as the Flitecontrol. I have not cut both open to verify that to be true, but if it is on the internet is has to be true...... Right?? Either way, it would likely be another great choice if you cannot find any of the federal stuff. Seems pop up pretty frequently on GunBroker.

I recently read that the low recoil 8 pellet version (133 00) has been discontinued. The higher velocity 9 pellet 127 00 is still being made.

Well obviously the pellets don't leave the wad for 10-15 yards. I believe this is designed to shoot deer at 40 yards. You will still need to use a choke for that distance.

It's incredibly tight patterning. I would like to try it with a choke, to see just how much farther than 35yds I can get.

@@prudentcitizentraining I can get a 15 inch pattern at 40 yards with standard 00 buck and an extra full .665 extended and vented choke. I can probably get a kill shot at 50, but at 50 + i would rather switch to slug.

@@prudentcitizentraining That was with an 18.5inch barrel (Win sxp) which is my home defense shotgun.The choke is a $29 True-Glow that comes packaged with fiber-optic sights. I'm under $300 total.
