Federal Signal Aerodynic 24C Dukes of Hazzard replica

The 24 C and CA is probably one of the most common custom-built replica bars. I made this based on a 24EH and added the 4 additional end lights (rear flashers as on Roscoe's car.) with a 537 can flasher. Also, I put on bulkhead mirrors, new domes, a fake name plate and the older style speaker grille.
The 24C/CA are very rare AeroDynic models as they were only made in the first years (probably 1978-1980). They were made with the older and current speaker grille, as well as with metal and plastic bulb holders for the end lights.

Never seen this particular configuration in the field before but very cool nonetheless. IMHO, the AeroDynic is among one of THE best lightbars ever made.

I have to say that in terms of actual warning this may be the dumbest lightbar on the planet. The double end lights block warning at off angles more than the normal end lamps which themselves aren't great, the mirrors block front and rear warning without really adding much in terms of side warning because the end lamps are in the way, and that's on top of having only four rotators to begin with which for a bar like this is kind of the minimum assuming there's nothing else inside getting in the way. So with all the stuff blocking light from the rotators, all the effect you get is basically just front and rear flashers or steady burns and like two rotators that aren't blocked out.

Well, if I remember right, they did not worry about side lighting (aka) ally lights . Due to spotlights, you just needed forward /REAR flashing lights, so these bars were basic bars. I bought an aerodynamic light bar from a local police dept that was loaded late, 80s, early 90s it had end flashers F/R and ally lights also 2 felo y lights in the front.

Used in Terminator 1 during the tunnel chase scene. The car Arnold is driving changes ((inconsistency)) and so does the lightbar up top.

Beautiful bar. I just don't understand the inner bulk 4 off angle mirrors. Seems like a complete waste of front/rear flash. Especially because there are 6 ! stationary lights blocking the mirror flash !!!

I'm curious... why the Bulkhead mirrors on a C bar? They are for bars with Alley lights. Not to mention you limit yourself down even further with the inner rotators blocked.. but regardless nice build.

I think Federal wanted the mirrors to reflect the rotator flashes away from the double PAR holders, because these were supposedly blocking the side warning like an alley light. I agree with you guys that this bar has a very low warning efficiency. It is still cool though.

I have many questions about this bar in general... I believe it was only around very briefly.. I'm not even sure the Halogen option was around when they finally stopped producing it.. but I'm not 100% on that.

I did some research when building this bar. There were definetely halogen bars back then (I have a '79 model 24H) and from what I found, all C/CA models had halogen bulbs. I could not find any pictures of actual service vehicles using this bar though, they were mostly seen in movies.

Remember though the Aerodynic first appeared in 1977.. all of the 24C and CA bars I have ever come across were 1st Gen.. By 1979 metal par holders were replaced with plastic, and other changes including the old style speaker grille were phased out. I also do not believe Gen 1 bars had the H option.. I also do not know if federal was still making the C or CA bars past the 1st Gen.

I have a screenshot from a TJ Hooker episode were you can cleary see a 24C with plastic PAR holders (thanks to HD release). I will post a video of my '79 model 24 soon, it has indeed the old speaker grille and silver base frame.

Stevie Capps: Yes it is. They used this type of AeroDynic for exterior shots, especially for chase scenes. For in-studio shots they used a cruiser with a conventional six rotator AeroDynic. The continuity error made it that much easier to spot the indoor shots.

@@FishKepr No it's not, I've just checked, and they mostly use a 6 rotator + 2 flash, amber at the back.
