It’s incredible how awesome Agassi still was at this time, being so much older than all the other top players. Before the Big 3, every player in the modern history of the game was done being a true top player once they reached their 30’s. Sampras won a major at 31, and Connors won one at 30, but they were no where near their prime anymore. Forget about winning majors after turning 30- Agassi got to #1 at 33, and I believe was in contention for year-end #1 that year- with Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin, and other greats in their primes. That was unthinkable at the time. In this era of insane athleticism and sports medicine, it’s become normal. But back then Agassi was an anomaly.

Exactly and it’s sad that todays young tennis fans don't really understand just how great Sampras and Agassi were. They see the slam totals and discount them compared to Fed, Nadal, and Djokovic. Agassi would've had a fine record against the Big 3 when in his prime and all things were equal. On a really slow hardcourt like all of todays courts? Yeah Djoko and Nadal would win but not on medium/fast like we used to have. On grass Pete was the king. Pete wouldve won plenty on hardcourt too. Fed in his prime is still the best tennis player all around and Nadal and Djokovic are simply great on medium/slow surfaces. Their slam records are no doubt skewed in their favor due to the slowing down of hard courts! There is an inequity between the amount of fast/medium/slow ....there really should be an equal number of each surface! Shot making ability is neutered on a slow court. Agassi to this day is still the cleanest ball striker in history. His groundstrokes were like lazer beams that he could drill deep into the court. He'd pin the opponent into the corner before drilling the ball down the line. Djokovic and Nadal are great at this too but again on a faster hard court Agassi, Pete and Fed would be able to have more success. These are undeniably the best 5 players of the last 30 years tho, I just wish people would stop with the recency bias and realize that #'s of Slams do not tell the whole story.

@@mgxzazfbyjuchrisclarkvpz236 If Pete was to grow up today, he wouldn't be a serve volleyer, he'd be an all court player like Fed or Djoker. Probably would have kept a two handed backhand too. And he'd be amazing in today's game too.

Fed’s style was unmatched, top 3 outifts in tennis history.. ICONIC. Federer used to thrive on agassi’s pace, and use it to create even more pace to smash winners. Fed’s footwork, balance, shotmaking, and hunger to win, made it practically impossible for agassi to win. Sure agassi was old but was arguably playing some of the best tennis of his life. Agassi was beating everyone else that year except for fed and nadal (montreal final CLASSIC)

This was one of the greatest matches I've ever seen (a recording of): incredible ball striking and shot making, with thankfully--for an ex-player who once considered going on the tour--numerous rallies shown from player level (rather than the usual "birds-eye view" which doesn't let you see the shots and strategy from the player's perspective).

Ill pick agassi anytime, he is more fun to watch, takes the ball early or on the rise. He is 35 by this time, played against 3 generations of players and succeded. Played 3 generations of racket technology and showed that his ground strokes and talent was intergenerational. If he was at his prime and played and trained in this generation he would be the most fun player to watch out there. Dont want to watch much tennis anymore because players nowadays tend to whack balls way behind the baseline, theyre great but theyre also monotonous.

I always loved Agassi's pure clean hitting...a real talent, a prodigy/phenom when he was a kid (search for videos of him at 6 years old hitting against pros then) I love Sampras' serve and tried to emulate it. He and Agassi bring out the best in each other when playing against the other both are greatest. But to me Fed is the GOAT and Nadal too next to him. Djokovic nah I just don't like him so what if he wins 30 GS and over 200 titles... To me being the GOAT is not always about winning the most. Another analogy I put is like Jordan and Aryton Senna being the GOAT in their sport, that's my take on it.
