I'm amazed at how much emotion Mompou can get out of so few notes.

In an ouevre of breathtaking beauty, Cancion and Danza #9 is absolutely unexcelled. It speaks the tenderness and miracle of a newborn infant and the parents infinite love for that child. This is the beauty of beauty and no music can or ever will excel it in its blessedness. The greatness of the composers pianistic performance actually matches and equals the greatness of hiscomposition.

I agree with Jack below. It's been a pleasure to see these pieces, formerly on the fringe of the repertoire, become more frequently performed in public, and not just as encores. I encourage adventurous listeners to try another Moupou collection, perhaps less tuneful but fascinating: "Musica Callada" ("Silenced Music"). It's four or five books of miniatures that accomplish much expression -- some of it deliberately bleak -- with a minimum number of notes.

No sólo Falla, Albeniz, Granados, Turina,.... Y por supuesto Mompou, hay más. Podemos estar orgullosos de nuestros compositores.
