Convenience stores that are corporately owned and not independent do the same thing. They don't change shifts or stores for the employee that experienced a shooting or robbery. The company will cite some study saying it's better to get back up on the horse immediately and seek therapy to help you cope. They say employees that take time off typically don't come.back to the position so not allowing leave or allowing only brief unpaid leave is seen as part of employee retention. Pretty crazy, huh?

People are dumping here on FedEx, but consider this. It's likely the local FedEx management (people also from Mississippi) dragged their feet on doing anything or sending word up the corporate ladder, much like the cops. D'Monterrio says he won't go back on that route, so the local supervisors say, "OK, then take some unpaid time off." It should have been an automatic worker's comp case, so therapy and at least partial wages should never have been at issue. It seems the fact this happened in Mississippi is a lot of the problem here. The cops were proof of that.

Published: Feb. 11, 2022 at 3:49 PM CST|Updated: 21 minutes ago BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (WLBT) - FedEx has agreed to pay one of their workers retroactively after he’d been on unpaid leave. D’Monterrio Gibson, the Black FedEx driver who was fired upon by a white man after making a delivery in Brookhaven, had been on unpaid leave since his vehicle was shot. Attorney Carlos Moore says FedEx has reinstated his pay retroactively to January 31, so Gibson will continue getting paychecks and was paid for the time he’s missed so far. Moore also says Gibson is getting therapy, and the company is paying for those sessions.

He was only in this area walking around delivering packages, his job. He would not have been doing this if he wasn't working. Unbelievable that FedEx is not paying him for an incident that happened on his route. While it wasn't FedEx who attempted to kill this young man, it happened in his work vehicle. You would think the company would want to make sure this man is in his right mind while driving around in thier property. Unbelievable about the company. The local Mississippi police reaction is not surprising. They are doing about as much as we can expect in this day and age. Im sure it would have been different if a police officer was attacked in this way. The company treating him this way is just salt in his wound. Definitely going to be following this case. I have PTSD from DV where guns were involved. You learn how to live but the trauma is there forever. Sending out some virtual support to this man and his lawyer.

On reading through the comments, I see a lot of outrage about the unpaid leave. To me, what is really outrageous is the cops not doing anything about this until FedEx took the van with bullets and bullet holes to the police station and complained as a company. And then the Cases were only charged with attempted assault. This sounds exactly like the Ahmaud Arbery case except for the missing friend getting the whole thing on video. I hope the Feds do something. I don't expect anything to be done by Mississippi.

Unfortunate but true. 😒

I just said the exact same thing!! It's strange how many people are more upset about unpaid leave than the racist casually hunting down people and cops treating Black people like we aren't civilians who puts food on their tables.

I think it comes from crap cops putting people down and walking to admin paid ;leave for an indefinite period of time.

The fact they not charge with attempt murder is more puzzles than anything. When you chase someone down and shoot at them is attempt murder

Shame on FedEx if your not taking care of ALL YOUR EMPLOYEES, people will stop using your service

Sounds like fedex isn’t standing by their employee, also sounds like they should be sued! How can they place him on unpaid leave after he was shot at while doing his job in a fedex uniform.

If FedEx doesn't pay this driver on his time off after this shooting, we should never use FedEx again.

These multi million dollar companies treat their employees TERRIBLY! this man's paycheck is nothing to Fed Ex, yet could be all he has why can't they just give him his paycheck? SMH its just wrong on so many levels.

IMO shooting at someone should always be attempted murder. Wtf is this bullshit assault nonsense.
