Funny how everybody talks about how modern players would've beaten Efren in his prime because of the better equipment, knowledge, and training. And the same people fail to understand the opposite, that Efren with his talent would beat all modern players if he were the same age as them now and had access to all this equipment, knowledge, and training.
@72c2010 ай бұрын
It's mostly the jump cue that helps players nowadays get out. But I do agree with you 👍
@eitel1010 ай бұрын
That's kinda the whole point. Efren in his 20's 30's was a great player and you could say maximized how good he could be...at that time. Players today have way more knowledge available to them with a low barrier of entry. The argument isn't that if Efren was born in 1990 he would be inferior to his peers. It's somewhat unique to pool also, because in other sports people have gotten physically bigger and a guy who was a 6'7" center in 1965 would get his lunch eaten if he played centers today.

I agree with you guys, I have played a lot on an old 9 foot Brunswick pool table and the pockets are so big it is ridiculous. All you have to do is roll a ball anywhere near the pocket and the table just sucks it in like there are magnets pulling the ball into the pocket. You play on a diamond table with 4.5 inch pockets then go to a Brunswick table with 5 inch pockets and it is laughable how easy it is to make shots. It's literally hard to miss, so all you have to do is worry about your cue ball speed and position.

Enjoy Your live streams, You two crack me up, with your comparisons to levels of skill from yesteryear to today, when your talking pure raw talent, the only one that comes close to Strickland today is Jason Shaw, & Earl has always advocated for tighter pockets, shorter time clocks, & fewer extensions, & was also the one who created the now so much utilized jump shot, & as far as Efren's talent & contributions to the game are unmatched, & at both Earl & Efren's age, are still no push overs, & kicking some ass, & the young players of today wouldn't be the players they are without their inspiration, but I can understand that Your deep love for Filler & Gorst creates some blind prejudice & can cloud one's rational thought, well until Jason blows Your mind again for a moment with his shot making abilities, of course until your beloved Gorst makes a shot, then you scream with joy like school girls, haha ,& don't get Me wrong, I'm a huge Fedor fan too......& oh, also enjoy Your giggly 4 grade innuendos about the young lady in the background, if you know what I mean, laff'n, classy,,,,,,remember nothing personal, just friendly conversation here..... Am I getting confused, or is the 1 racked on the spot, old style? I was a fan of old style 9-ball, where you could push out more than once and any time, then the other player could shoot it, or give it back to you. It was a completely different strategy, reduced the luck factor, and favored the better player. It made games longer though, so for TV they changed to single push out after the break, which used to be called Texas Express, and is the standard now.
@rogerscottcathey10 ай бұрын
Huh! Didn't know that. I also recall some old schoolers saying there was no push out at all, if you couldn't figure out how to contact the ball, you had the tie up a ball strategy, still going ball in hand. Calling safety was used for all ball calls in yet another regimen. I like the longer game, higher strategy stuff. No jump cues, but full cue jumps. In our local halls, back in the 70s jumping at all was forbidden over concern for the cloth.

Obviously the legacy players of the previous generation were awesome in their day. And would still beat everything except the best pros. The current batch of young gunslingers are incredibly talented and skilled. They play tactics much more. Unlike the old guard. I've heard people in my loop say they need to change the 9 ball game to mitigate the effectiveness of these pros today. I disagree. I think they need to just make the course harder. Such as 4" or 4 1/4" pockets. And I would make the shot clock 1 minute with no extensions. Hand rack, no template. And the jump stick to be used only once per rack. And lag for break on any hill-hill game.

Screw this guy. It’s about making me not want to watch his BS. If that guy doesn’t think Efren or Earl or Sigel wouldn’t be great today if they grew up with all the advantages that today’s players grow up with, then there’s no hope for him. Guaranteed he’ll be a grumpy old man about his generation in years to come. I'll take Efren over these guys today anytime. Every generation proclaims itself better than the last and is not necessarily true. In Hockey they are bigger and faster but all they do is dump & chase with very little play-making, while all of the goalies are sieves. One never played goal on their knees hence the term 'good STAND UP' goal tender. If a goalie when we played, dropped to his knees, he was kicked out of goal. All today's goalies do today is hope the puck hit them. Filler played Efren in one pocket late 2023 and lost.
