A proper critique. I had a few professors that would be this honest with you. They were happy when you did you well and were willing to clue you in when you didn't. Serious and frank critiques are invaluable.

So awesome. I wish I could get my work torn to shreds by someone truly world class like Mann.

i mean, at some point he called the student's work garbage, i see that he is trying to provoke and give em energy but idk, feels like it's not an appropriate tone to use with people that are just there and happen to find him giving feedback at this event - it's not like they signed up for his course or something. even then, still not cool being this aggressive

@@MFDOOOOM "A Solitary Mann"...how CEREBRAL and CLEVER! Thanks again MFDOOOOM! (I hate he passed...great rapper)! Mann's contemporaries are Jeremy Lipking and Casey Baugh, but even there work is a little behind his, in my opinion!

this totally brings me back to arts school. I'm a performer/musician but I've grown up around artists of all kinds my whole life and I miss the intensity and kind of absurd puzzle making understanding of work and style. I live in a mountain town right now in the rockies and I feel like the only weirdo artist that thinks critically like this, I'd love to get ripped to shreds and have someone really dig into my stuff!

So they tell him 'this is not good' etc, then just minutes later ''why should you care if someone else doesn't like what you're doing'' Well i guess they had to yak yak yak. 22:40 Jeremy is totally wrong analyzing her art - He give her advice which would basically make her do his style and technique. He tells her the one with black lines is better - yet the one he does not like looks even more creative and interesting. Jeremy was totally wrong on that part. Every artist has different styles
@david_kim8 жыл бұрын
not that you should totally not care what someone says, rather you should allow your opinion to matter more than theirs. that person has the option to totally ignore the comment from Mann that 'this is not good', and value their own opinion more than his, but i for one would not do that.
@tzutzescu5 жыл бұрын
i think the point was "it doesn't matter if someone else doesn't like what you're doing as long as you do, because you do it for yourself" which is valid imo, as long as you are doing it for yourself and not someone else.
@SubNorm4L4 жыл бұрын
It's not about that it looks more creative or interesting, it was that the composition work better on that one. It had a clear focal point and a better overall read. He made a very traditional observation about the work, focusing on objective points about composition rather than creative ones. If her intention was that the other piece were unreadable at first sight, then that painting is successful. If not, it's a failure. It all depends on what she wanted to say.
