I walked across the black plastic matting when it was first dug out and it started as a clay pit, which I also went to the bottom of so, no, not a natural venue.

A good video - it's many years since I lived in MK and fished its waters (although never Furzton) - my main fishing area was the Ouse. Thanks

Top Tip:With sunglasses and normal glasses. Get those band things where you hang them around your neck and have the foam thing at the the back so when you drop them in,they float and whilst we’re at it,one of those floating aqua bags to keep your phone in. I know!😬

Could I ask your thoughts on the Thatchers and F1 dark groundbait mix you tested, is it special or sales hype. The reason I ask is because I intend to do some winter method feeder fishing at a predominantly F1 venue where the fish average 3-4 lbs. I normally fish the waggler and slow sinker all through the year with hard 4mm pellets but now retired I'm wanting to slow down a bit and try feeder fishing. Costs don't allow trail and error purchases. Many thanks, Malc.
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 2 жыл бұрын
It was genuinely what 70%+ of the field must have been using on my last skimmer tournament! Cannot fault it and will be a great winter silverfish mix for me this year.

I've struggled this week on Ferry Meadow. So full of little skimmers, they've been stripping my worm or corn before it hits the bottom. The bream don't seem to recognise pellets and mini-boilies as food. I'm trying to think outside the box. I think I need a big hard natural bait. I might go continental and try cheese or mealworms. Any ideas for fishing through small skimmers for better fish?
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 2 жыл бұрын
Just bigger hook baits are the key to singling out bream from skimmers, so double corn, a bunch of worms or a big dendra and wafters are all good. Another trick is to cut out he groundbait and just feed micro pellets as skimmers home in on the cloud from GB and bream like a bed of particles to graze over.

Nice, can you still catch big bags of bream and skimmers on furzton bud
@JonArthur

Definitely big bream still there if you chuck a bit further.

A nice unpressured session. Just how I like it. Made me laugh when you said " the brownie didn't touch the sides". , so much like me with anything sweet. What is it with the swans these days? Always trying to drown themselves... I'm done being silly for now. TTFN

what helped you decide to fish at l5m and 39 m?
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 2 жыл бұрын
Dragging a bomb beforehand and wanting to practice chucking a specific area/range that I knew were typical rages that would apply to the other venue I was practicing for. If I was specifically bream fishing at Furzton I'd probably go for something around the 60m mark as that has always been good for me. This was purely a practice session, getting used to specific rods and feeders and tips at set ranges.

Good one. I hate catching perch on the feeder as they tend to gorge the bait before you get an indication. This means having to disgorge them and care must be taken not to damage one of their kidneys at the back of their throats. I had three on Sunday on a feeder and gave up with it, went back on the float for the roach.
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 2 жыл бұрын
I think if it's perch in the swim you have to hit the early rattles
@WolfmanWoody
@WolfmanWoody 2 жыл бұрын
@@JonArthur I wasn't even getting those. I don't mind legering for big perch with a huge lobworm or live minnow, you get definite takes and lip hooked fish mostly. With smaller ones I rather like float fishing and on the pole it's a straight lift. Lovely. Thanks for responding, Jon.

May I ask what rod and reel you are using for spodding and what braid
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 2 жыл бұрын
The short rod is a 9ft Sonik 3lb TC with a 5000 Horizon reel. The long rod is one I've had years with a Greys 4.5lb TC 12ft rod and Penn 8000 reel with who knows what braid, which is possibly overgunned but great if you're spotting over 60m. Anything 20-30lb is ideal braidwise.

I notice you always leave yourself clipped up. Would you only do that on waters you know don't have many big carp or tench? I worry about getting snapped off before being able to unclip if a big one takes it.
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 2 жыл бұрын
That's the dilemma you have to deal with. If bonus carp or big fish are possible and required, forget braid and use something like 6lb mono. If its just silvers you are targeting then braid and clipping up offers unrivalled accuracy. If you hit the clip with the rod high or behind you will still get a turn or two on the reel to buy you some unclipping time.
