As someone who is very familiar with ball python care, I would suggest feeding the snakes inside of their enclosure, I know there's a lot of mixed feelings about it but from personal experience and interacting with other people that have had Bps for a long time, moving to feed can stress them out and does more harm than good. It doesn't make them cage aggressive if you handle them regularly (not just when it's food time) and if you put some paper down or a plastic lid, they aren't likely to consume any substrate (even if they do, it's not the end of the world and they will likely just poop it out). You also don't need the red light for bps, it can actually stress them out and isn't great for their eyes, a CHE and under tank heater on a thermostat is ideal for them. Overall your animal care is on point and I think it's awesome that you rescue almost all of your pets.
@levinutter30263 жыл бұрын
i thought the same things, and the rat looked pretty small for the size of the ball python...

All of my ball pythons can't wait to get out and be handled but it depends on the snake. I've been lucky I guess
@calliew311 Жыл бұрын
And in the wild, I'm sure some ball pythons eat a little dirt or whatever when they are eating their food. I think as long as it's not too much or too often, they will be fine, and like you said, much better for the snake's mental health to not be taken from their home to be fed.

@TheTinyHerd5 жыл бұрын
@@opshiedaisy pellets I didn't pay attention to, so ok. She said she doesn't feed them all those vegetables everyday so I assumed she doesn't usually feed that much. Generally its 1 cup veggies per 2 pounds of body weight. Unless you're specializing in exotics it doesn't really matter if you're in vet school, so are most of my friends and I know more about rabbits than they do if they aren't going into exotics. Care changes constantly. Some people feed no pellets and all vegetables and some people feed limited vegetables and more pellets, you have to tailor to your rabbits digestive preferences to keep them healthy. I wasn't really commenting on the amount, I was commenting on the fact that the original person said it wasn't the correct foods. All of those foods are ok per the house rabbit society website, which is the standard for rabbit care. (Except maybe the broccoli slaw, I probably wouldn't feed that.)

(I know this is an old video so idk how relevant this is for her now) the thing about feeding hamsters, even though it's nice to feed them their favorite foods, if you're giving them that much food and topping off their bowls everyday, they're going to be very picky eaters and probably not get all the nutrients they need. You really only need to feed them every couple of days because even when their bowl is empty they most likely have a hoard somewhere. Plus you don't want them to be over fed and become unhealthy. Just some recommendations for all hamster owners!

@@tarynhall7113 so the thing is most reptile people know that sand is a big no no in the community. The reason being reptiles like bearded dragons and other lizards test heat gradients and others things with their sticky tongue so accidently ingesting the sand, which doesn't digest which over time if they eat alot can block their intestines and cause impaction and kill them. A little piece will pass but alot being eaten at one time does not. Also being bad for their joints.

So I'm honestly not sure if you'll see this or not but it's worth a shot. I was a bit surprised to hear you mention bathing bear in Listerine and alcohol. The only thing I could find on using Listerine on hamsters is a mite treatment using witch hazel + Listerine + hot water then spraying it on your hands and rubbing it into the fur, as you've said on-screen Bear has tested negative for mites so the treatment would be unnecessary. As you probably already know bathing hamsters is a big no no unless an absolute emergency, alcohol is especially drying (if you've ever used alcohol on your skin you'll notice how dry it makes it) therefore giving Bear even drier skin which can cause him to be even itchier. If your current vet is unsure what the cause is then I would see another exotic vet and get a skin scraping. There can be *many* causes to fur loss, such as Sarcoptic Mange, Ringworm, Nutritional and/or Hormonal Deficiencies, kidney related disorders, or even just caused from old age, as you said Bear is older and fur loss can be quite common with older hamsters as they produce less sebum.

@arianne4945 жыл бұрын
@@mxddy-2857 our hamster community has some things that we may see that would cause is to lose it. When you fall in love with a tiny flooofy you automatically want ALLL THE TINY FLOOOOOFIES living their best lives. Small enclosures, small wheels, harmful "toys", etc. Trust me, no one is doing anything but suggesting she may try an alternative way. We could also complain that she's calling them "teddy bears" which is a no-no. Or that the floofy's could use a bit more bedding - at least 4 inches. My point is, if you put your makeup on with a brush every day, that works, but someone suggesting you try a beauty blenders doesn't mean they're trying to tell you how to live.

Fellow chameleon mom here. For Zeppelin your Panther chameleon I would suggest adding a big live plant. I really like dracaena marginata or schefflera. You can also line the sides of the cage with plastic garden fencing from a home improvement store to help keep them from climbing the mesh screen. I'd suggest doing that over changing to glass. Also for supplements chameleons are sensitive to D3 to I'd make sure to feed them mostly plain calcium (There's a Miner-All without D3) and a multivitamin like repashy LoD twice a month. Then the D3 maybe only a couple times a month if that. :) 🐍

Hey, I know I am superrrr lateeee to this video and i have checked through the comments and was surprised to see that no one else had commented on this. I don't know if your feeding routine has changed so if so, i do apologise in advance. For your rabbits the amount of veggies you're feeding them is far tooo much. They should only have about a cup of veggies per kilo of weight. Some of the veggies here are really not beneficial for your rabbits. Cabbage is very gassy for rabbits and should only be fed in very small amounts (I tend to avoid any gassy foods as there are great alternatives). Feedings carrot and banana at the same time is way too much sugar for your rabbits (even if they do go crazy for it). These high sugar foods should be fed around once a week and it should be one or the other not both. A carrot is the equivalent of a cupcake for us. The pellets definitely should not have those 'treats' in as your bunny will just get used to picking out the good bits when just the plain brown pellets have the nutrients they need. Nuts should not be fed at all as like seeds they are unable to digest these. I am aware that in the video you said that you were only adding a large quantity to show us what range of veggies you do feed however, this can cause so much harm to your rabbits e.g an upset stomach and runny poops which is an emergency. You should never feed your rabbit more just for a video. I also picked up on the fact that you said wild rabbits thrive off veggies in the wild therefore you want to feed your rabbits these. Wild rabbits and domestic rabbits are completely different in terms of their diet and what they need to thrive. A domesticated rabbit would not survive in the wild so its best not to compare the two and treat them the same. A good alternative to these veggies would be herbs such as mint, dill, coriander, basil etc.

THANK YOU!!! I skimmed through your comment and I have never had a rabbit but wanted one and did a lot of research and she put so many veggies and so many pellets. I saw she put that big scoop and I was like um ok and she put more and more and I felt so bad.

Thank you!! I have been researching to get a bunny and I was completely baffled by the amount she gave that one bunny PLUS the two scoop of pellets and I didn’t want to say anything as I’m new to learning about them but this made me feel a lot more confident in my knowledge! I knew something wasn’t right and glad I found someone who felt the same.

My hamster had the same thing happening as the hamster in this video. And eventually my hamster lost all his hair and I took him to the vets and they said it was the type of bedding, some bedding affects hamsters and as soon as I changed the bedding, his fur started growing back and he got better. Idk if this helps lol

This is amazing… We have six rescue babies and three stray cats we are feeding and trying to coax in to the house. Luckily we live out in the country by the water so the cats don’t really see a lot of traffic. As soon as this stupid Covid has calmed down, we can trap the cats and get them to the vet to get spayed or neutered, and physicals with rabies shots. My husband and I both work full-time and sometimes two jobs and a lot of our money goes to these babies but that’s what’s most important to us. I love seeing other rescue people and you’re set up I must say is incredible. I don’t know how you keep everything so clean and organized and still have a gorgeous home you are so put together your make up is on point your ink is gorgeous. I don’t have ink myself but my husband is covered in beautiful tats that tell a story. He even has some of our fur-babies on his arms. Our dream is to have land and open up an animal rescue with a facility on site near our home. I will not give up my dream. Keep doing what you’re doing! Blessings! 💕

Try Manuka Honey for Bears skin/hair loss. We have a hammy that has a similar problem and after cleaning the skin, the vet said to use a q-tip and rub honey on skin. It’s harmless if he likes it off x 🐹

You're correct about the nutrients being removed, however for cruciferous vegetables if you put mustard (in powdered form) it will put all of the cancer fighting nutrients back.

Your snake feeders should be much much bigger. For ball pythons the food item should be the same width as the thickest part of their body and for the gtp it's just wayyyy too small. But for boas it should be smaller than the thickest part of their body, because they have a slower metabolism. Also red lights for snakes can be irritating so I'd recommend using a heat mat and just a normal heat lamp or just no heat lamp and just a led light for a day/night cycle. Your care is great tho and I loved the video😊
@rachellawson48055 жыл бұрын
True. BUT ball pythons can b extremely picky and hard to transition from live (most hatchlings r fed live) to F/T so if u offer too big a meal, they may go on a food strike like my banana lesser did 🙃

@@rachellawson4805 yee I know that's why I got a bci and not a bp...that could be the case for the bp...but it's still not enough imo I'm wondering about the gtp though...
@abeck617935 жыл бұрын
Ball pythons actually go in hunger strikes during breeding season. We found that out the hard way with my BP she went without eating for 4 months. 8 vet trips and she only lost like 2 oz in the whole 4 months I freaked out so bad. I was scared I was going to have to assist feed. She finally ate one night after offering a rat every day for like 3 months.

The feeder mice/rats definitely need to be bigger for both snakes. Ball pythons need something the size of the biggest part of their body, usually you should be able to see a bit of a lump after they have eaten.

It’s fine if she’s feeding weekly. Better than obese snakes. Which actually takes years off their lives.
@psychosquirrel79185 жыл бұрын
This is true but she said they are rescues so maybe she doesn't plan on keeping them, just looking to sustain them 🤷🏽♀️ They are getting nourishment even if it's not an appropriate size prey item.
@selenesummers5 жыл бұрын
M W I’m not saying make them obese but to feed them the appropriate size in order for them to thrive.
@selenesummers5 жыл бұрын
Psycho Squirrel she had said she had been wanting a green tree python for a while so I’m guessing she’s planning on keeping that one at least so hopefully she’s just doing that in the meantime and later on feed them the appropriate size. You don’t want the snakes to be underweight either

Hi Kristen! You prob won’t see this!! I think I see oxbow in ur hamster seed diet. The oxbow food is bad for hams bc it’s literally just Timothy hay. Mazuri rat & mouse lab blocks are a lot better Also please don’t put listerine and alcohol on your hamster!!! Their skins super sensitive and that’ll just make things worse.

@Stop_Infanticide5 жыл бұрын
Tea tree oil is super dope. It's a natural way to kill mites/mange/fleas/ticks and even smaller micro organisms/bacteria. It's anti inflammatory as well. Just avoid the eyes/mouth/nose. The listerine alcohol combo is going to be super drying and ineffective. Everytime it's used the skins natural barriers are broken down further and it allows the pests/infection just burrows into the host further. Super not fun for the hammy :(

@laurafontaine44683 жыл бұрын
I used to work for a vet, one thing that I'd suggest for Bear is apple cider vinegar diluted with water, using a cotton swab to just dab on his skin, it should reduce inflammation and inflamed skin, making him a little more comfortable and less itchy. We would use it on dogs and cats when they had a skin issues that we couldn't quite resolve. Apple Cider Vinegar has antibacterial and antifungal agents, which can really benefit any animal with skin issues.
