I like that locking device for the calf’s water buckets. I need that for my cats who continually dump their water bowls because, well, they’re cats.

We went from feeding 2 litres 3 times a day to 3 litres 3 times per day and saw huge benefits for the calves. Also we only feeding using bottles because we want the calves suckling so that they produce a lot of saliva.

We use replacer to feed our calves with bottles the whole way through. We find it’s easier to makes sure the calves get consistent meal sizes. We use 3 and 4 quart bottles depending on age. We also found that we can maintain proper feeding temperature while feeding calves in hutches. Let me know if you would like to know more.

We feed some whole milk and top it off with milk replacer to the amount we need, mixed in a milk taxi. We used to use buckets, but just switched to 4qt bottles and a bottle washer for cleaning them to reduce labor. Feeding around 40 calves right now.

Technically I think it is better to feed bottle, something about the groves in there throat, but it takes longer too, so depends on how many calved you got and how you value/manage your time

Back in 1966-1975, feeding calves was part of my job too. We did not have bottles. We had pails with a nipple on them. We also would try to get them to drink out of the pail (without nipple) as soon as possible. If I remember correctly,.....they were usually drinking out of the pail (no nipple) within a few weeks.
@brodylebold85723 жыл бұрын
We feed all calves on bottles. They say that buckets r faster but not as healthy because they are drinking too much at a time. When calves are young it’s better for them to drink slower. But buckets are a lot faster

In sweden we mainly feed the calves from, i dont know what to call it, nipple-buckets, maybe. Like a bucket with a nipple, like on your bottles, on the side. I guess it's the more natural way for the calf to drink milk, and the bucket is a bit more rational than the bottle, especially if you have some sort of milk taxi when you can just fill the bucket from the top instead of srewing the lid on the bottle on and off. I also noticed that you feed the calves a quite low amount of milk compared to what im used to, but you do get big, good looking, cows, so you must be doing something right.
