Feeding Littles - Why Do Toddlers Have Big Energy, Small Appetites?

Why do our toddlers have so much energy but such small appetites? This is a question my wife and I ask a lot. Toddlers have SO MUCH energy and it's hard to keep up with them, but they can somehow do it while eating so little. To help us, we spoke with Megan and Judy from Feeding Littles to shed some light on the relationship between our children's energy output and food intake.
Check out Feeding Littles for course on how to make feeding easier.

My 2.5 yr old has been struggling to stay focused when eating and just running off. A trick we found was having him show us how to use his fork to take a bite. He gets so proud that he can do it and we can't/need help, that he will take multiple bites.

I have an almost three year old and honestly the hardest part of parenting is feeding him. Thank you for the video! It’s really frustrating when he stops eating the things he normally likes so it’s good to hear why he does that.

We took Just and Megan’s course and so far the little one has eaten everything we give him! It’s been such a great resource for us :)

Man, I’m not going to lie, I really needed to hear this. My wife and I have a 2.5 year old as well as a 12 month old, and trying to get our oldest to eat has been a struggle. Compound that with his developmental delay (seeing an occupational therapist and speech therapist), my wife and I have been worn down with trying to help him and the food issue was something that made us feel like we were messing up something so crucial, to the point of tears. So, sincerely, thank you. This video helped put my mind at ease a bit.

Thank you for partnering with Feeding Littles! Best collaboration from my favourite family focused KZbinr and Instagram page. You’ve both helped me navigate through options and make sure that my first child is thriving (and stays alive 😅)

This video was so needed. A great reminder to just relax if the babies don't seem like they are eating a lot. My 1 year old suddenly stopped eating anything. Barely any milk, no food. Just wafers. Realized that is because she is finally growing her new teeth. She is a little late bloomer.

Our toddler is 2 today! Happy Birthday Alexander! He was a very good eater up until the age range referenced in this video. For a while now, he'll eat, but once he's "done", he'll throw his utensils on the floor or the remainder of his serving. That's probably the most frustrating part of feeding. I think we have to do a better job and recognizing those clues that food's about to fly. Lol.

Happy Belated Birthday Alexander! I feel you on that man. The throwing of utensils and the general mess has always been something that has frustrated me but after speaking with FL, I learned that it was par for the course.

I think it’s true, as a parent, when your child stops eating you start to worry and you put more pressure on your child to eat. The best advice I was given was from my GP in that sometimes we as adults just don’t feel hungry so why should a child be any different and I found when my 2yo doesn’t want to eat I accept what he’s saying about his body and put it in the fridge. Sometimes he comes to me 30mins later, sometimes he won’t but as with everything in life I know it will ebb and flow. When he’s having a particularly rough day (he has non-verbal ASD) a smoothie is always a good way to get in the healthy things he needs in a low pressure way.

Thanks for making this video. Makes a lot of sense why my 2.5 year old is so resistant but when he's hungry...he's hungry.

Hey man, thanks for the video 🙏🏽 I really enjoy your videos! I’m 24 and have a two year old. Love this guy to death! But honestly I get impatient sometimes with my toddler! How do I get him to really focus on a daily basis when there’s nothing to do around the house!? Thanks man 🥸

This is the question of questions. Gah, I struggle with this everyday. Always trying to come with with something to do like crafts and outings but there are now many times where we're just like "go up and play" and they manage super great. It's a puzzle we're always trying to figure as well.
