Hi Cory I’m sure you get these messages all the time but I’m having some aquarium issues I have Been in the hobby for about a year now and I’m 13 and I have had a ton of fish die in the past and I have a planted aquarium and I need to know how to make it more alive and I have a little fin rot on one fish and I’m treating it but it doesn’t seem to be working. I will get to the point my plants are dying more than growing I want more green and more growth than death. please help

Thanks for sharing. You said something about starting this series to show build out of fish room not so much about things like dealing with algae, etc., but that’s actually super-helpful to see, is how you deal with things like that, and your running commentary always has these golden nuggets of hard-won experience. So thanks and enjoy finding that balance.

Appreciate the return to chatting in the fish room. I was a night manager of a LFS in high school and went on to having many tanks and ponds. Then at some point I got busy - went to college, law school, started and ran multiple companies, etc. I'm just beginning to return to my original love of keep fish. It's challenging to go back to DIY building a fish room rather then just "buying" everything I need, but it's wholesome and fulfilling experience. Now that I'm and old guy, 50, and trying to settle down a bit, it's amazing to get back into the hobby and this format helps to get my fishy juice flowing again. Appreciate the continued commitment to the hobby and cheers on all your success.

As always, Great Content! As for your sink, that is a food grade dishwashing set up. I know the feeling that the hose is too high, and the hose/spring will break. It won't, i promise. Gotta say, as you decide to change things, consider a more concave basin for your higher flow sink (if at all possible, run a double basin set up). Of course, its easiest to gravitate to flat bottomed for ease of use. Even so at the scale you are running, using one rounded/concave bottom (cleaning and such things requiring high pressure) and one flat (for all other purposes) will suit your purposes better. Less spray and such, while also allowing you to Reaaallly crank up the water pressure to deep clean. Plus, you'll still have the flat bottom sink for regular stuff.

Worth putting a water sample under a microscope see if the CS/MTS tank clouding element is visible at scale? Thanks Cory for another awesome fish room update video!
@WastrelWay Жыл бұрын
That's a very good idea. Why is that tank always cloudy? If you put the water under a microscope will you see algae or little mineral particles? There could be a bad rock in there was my first thought. A rock or something in the substrate with clay in it would produce that effect.
@AquariumCoop Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, maybe I'll take some water down to Mike and have him use his scopes.

@@AquariumCoop That many shrimp may be annihilating the microfauna in the substrate leaving water-born bacteria to flourish in the imbalance. A separate tank to culture microfauna with an auto-topoff into the display may solve this.

Hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle works for me, and an army of siamese algae eaters. But I need to fix the issues of why it started, before I get it to go away.
@gigi3242 Жыл бұрын
@@AquariumCoop I've been told to get Florida Flag fish, as they will eat it as adult fish, where the Siamese Algae Eaters slow down as they become adults. I'm thinking at some point, I'm probably going to have to tear down the tank, soak all the hardscape and plants in peroxide, isolate them for a couple of months... take a blow torch to the tank, just start over. BBA is a/an (insert bad word here). Has anyone actually ever gotten rid of it by "balancing" their tank? Hey @aquarium co-op @8:48 I think I know why your so cloudy there... It may be a fungus that is causing it. It takes a incredibly small amount but It could be fungal related. Since you can afford the testing for it, and you like knowing the answer, please send the water out for a more indepth testing, you may find something fun.... get it, its a fungus pun... GL to you.

I ran a UV sterilizer on it for a few weeks and no change. Also wouldn't fungus be in other tanks as well?
@alexissixela6914 Жыл бұрын
@@AquariumCoop Oh but that would me you don't believe in uv resistant spores? Some spores can be resistant to uv in my opinion... Also I find it pheasble for one tank to be 'infected' even if it shares a sump with others... Thoes tanks may all share the same water, but if this 'infection' is bond to the items in the infected tank, maybe its not in circulation. (it's made its new home, the decorations, the walls, the substrate and stuck to it like glue.) that would explain how it survvied 100% water changes too... Just something worth spending a few dollars on and looking into deeper.
