I love harmless snakes, but I am terrified of all things venomous, whether it's particularly deadly or not! That's why I love huge boa constrictors, but if you threaten to put a house spider on me, I nearly piss myself lmao. Takes all kinds! Glad you're here tho. 😊

There's also the pupils starting to dilate. I've seen that with other gaboons owned by other keepers here on youtube, their pupils tend to start to slowly dilate as they prepare to strike. Fairly subtle on Gabby here but for others their pupils become super-huge.

My Rainbow Boa pulled Kraity Perry last night when I fed him. Dangled mouse in front of log, head came out, grabbed mousie, then back into his "lair" to eat it haha. The week before my kingsnake made a pinky disappear instantly, head shot out of log, grabbed pinky went back into log in a split second haha.

Nice video snd wishing you all the best moving. Alot of interesting facts too. One thing I learned about was the African twig snake. But i thought you were going to say the medically significant venomous colubrids were the boomslang and keelback snakes for sure! (venomous snd poisonous!) Just in case anyone is wondering, things like the garter snake snd the hognoses, actually have venom to some degree, but it requires chewing on you with the rear fangs and would maybe cause a little local ichiness or msybe a pink mark. A fasicnating story is the acientist who journaled after taking a boomslang bite snd he thought the bite wouldn't be a big deal since it was just known to be a rear fanged colubrid. They had no idea how dangerous they really were, and you can read how he goes from super confident to realizing hes stuck in a very bad situation and just keeps Journaling everyrhing for science.

Male boomslangs can be solid bright green, rust-red, or a combination of black and yellow. Females are usually dull olive-brown or gray. Boomslang hatchlings are gray with large emerald green eyes. When they reach about one meter in length, boomslangs change to the colors of the adult. Boomslangs can be leaf-green, bright green, black, brick-red, or rust-red, depending on their environment.

Hey Joey. Ive noticed your feeding your snakes when they are going into shed. I definitely know you have a lot of experience with snakes, but i still wanted to comment you this because maybe you dont know about it. Feeding when the snake is sheeding is not recommended because the digestions needs a lot of water, which is also needed for shedding. Therefore it can result in regurgitation or a bad shed. As a boa c. c. (surinam) owner it is crucial, because they love to regurgitate as babys. Just wanted to point it out to you, but if it works for you: Never change a running system :)

Maybe it differs by species. Maybe the ones that need higher humidity shouldnt be fed while shedding. I feed my north american rat snake during shed and he has no problems, and he only needs medium humidity

Serious question, how do you clean up their enclosures? Like spot cleaning if they've done a shite? Or even just getting their water bowls out? Do you remove them to do this? Reason I ask is all my snakes are non venomous and I just shove my hand in to clean up etc and most of them are fine, but my carpet python and kingsnake always see the fingers and think they're food so lunge for them. Doesn't matter if they tag me but always wondered about venomous keepers negating this

Have you considered providing IR-A and IR-B for your boomslangs? That is something they would normally get from the Sun, so maybe experiment with that if you ever get a new boomslang. You can provide that with a deep heat projector. I use the Arcadia ones for my snakes, they work great!

What's your protocol for dealing with venom on your equipment, clothes or skin? How do you balance that with the necessities of venomous snake handling? I imagine if you are holding a snake that spit venom at you, you can't just drop it and wash you skin/clothes off.
