In this video I will show you how I feed my sourdough starter.
1. If you already have a sourdough starter, it’s important that it gets regular feedings with flour and water.
2. I use King Arthur all purpose flour to feed my starter regularly.
3. If I am not actively making bread or other products with my starter during the week I simply let my starter sit in a sealed glass jar in my fridge.
4. If I am actively baking with my starter- this is how I feed it. I put half of the mixture into my discard container (keep in fridge always). Now to the half of my starter that remains I add 100 grams of filtered water that is between 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit. Then I add 100 grams of all purpose flour. I usually always use organic flour as opposed to regular all purpose flour.
5. Once you’ve “fed” your starter, make sure to stir it up thoroughly and scrape down the sides of your jar to combine all the starter together- this will make all the wild yeasts to ferment the way nature would like, resulting in a good rise when you bake your bread and other baked goods.
6. If your starter is in the fridge, you only need to feed it once per week. If your starter is active and sitting on your countertop and you’re making with it at least once per week or more, it MUST be fed every day. Feeding it about the same time every day will help as well.
7. Happy Baking!
