That is a crazy amount of bees. I got a little taste of swarming bees at work when a swarm came in and stayed for awhile on some work equipment. We called the local beekeeper that was really happy to be able to collect the colony. What I didn't know is that swarming bees are healthy bees and would make good honey. I got so close to them literally inches videoing them which I never would have done before. The beekeeper was very informative and I learned a lot that day.

When I drove flatbed, my favorite cargo was live bees...when i stopped driving for the night at a truck stop, often I had 3 parking spaces all to ourselves !! LOL I'd drive through the day, and would only stop ten minutes or so to water the bees' netting in the shade of the fuel island canopy. Mostly they'd stay inside the hives during the day because of the 60 mph wind which tires them but also keeps them rather cool. At night I'd have brought honey to spread out on the bed of the trailer to help them stay fed. Bees are interesting creatures. There wouldn't even be dandelions if it were not for bees. Am enjoying your vids. Thanks.

In an effort to learn more about bees I discovered this channel on KZbin. I can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos that you have posted. I have been catching up with your work for a little more than a month now, watching a video or two every few days. How does someone make such a large buckets of pollen? Is somebody shaking blooming trees and then scooping all the pollen up? Or how do you harvest this much pure pollen (without accidentally getting honey in it) from honey bee colonies just to feed other colonies?

Just wondering, but where does the owner of that company order such large quantities of pollen from? Are there other similarly sized operation that only specialize in pollen collection or is it a byproduct of some other industry? I can understand that sourcing tankers of sugar syrup might be more straightforward, but the pollen remains a mystery to me. I suppose that as long as someone is willing to pay for it, someone else is willing to do the work for collecting the pollen though. Would love to see a documentary on tv about this topic, its really interesting. I can see kids getting really excited about learning about this kind of stuff.

I have to say it worries me though... I hear the big guys, I know they buy your queens, but that... the bees die because they don't get enough fresh varied forage (clean food is what I've head some bee keepers call it). But, yeah, if there was a mass feeding method for those who happened to be on the shipping yard when not cycling through clean this would be it. I'm thinking, you see that this isn't necessarily what I'm afraid of, as many bees could be kept elsewhere. But the old dudes seemed to think 3 or 6 months on clean food would be normal for bees, so when people bring up fungus, beetles, and pesticide, I tend to think of not enough non-monoculture food. I hope the pollen is similarly multi-sourced as it occurs to me I don't know what's in it. Anyway, still amazing.

I spotted them from about 100 yards away when I pulled in the drive but wasn't really sure what the cloud was on the back of that truck. When I walked back there I couldn't believe how thick they were.

No doubt that would fill your dance card. Every time I've been on his yard there has been at least three guys working. I'm not sure how many employees he has but his bees are spread out through two states right now.
