Super video! Very tidy farm too... Thanks Matthew 🙃

This seems to be most efficent way of beeding bales in every aspect. Looks to be both a time and fuel saver. I'm kinda jealous honestly, since my buildings won't allow it, takes us ~2 hours to feed two bales.

Couldn’t be any easier. No tractor burning 15-20 gallon of diesel a day, no feeder that has to changed every 4-5 years. No hassle with break downs.

Exactly, that was the main reason we stopped tmr

I’m assuming that with the diagonal feed barriers that the cows wouldn’t pull much in under their feet into the scraper passage, but even though the bales look to be well chopped I can’t help but assume that while eating from the feed troughs that a lot of silage gets pulled in, just wondering if it interferes with the functionality of the scrapers? Other than that, very tidy & efficient operation
@sandersfarmvids3 жыл бұрын
Not much gets pulled through as long as you don’t put the silage too close. Any silage pulled through won’t stop the scrapers but it does have to be forked off the grids at the ends

Super interesting, you say you give vales one day silage the next what's the difference?
@sandersfarmvids3 жыл бұрын
No we put bales out one day then push them up the next day

How do you find the Cashels compared to the Tanco? We have a hood which is great, there are times we will get a bale drop off hard on the first half and take the plastic with them
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
I think that can happen with any bale shear. Trick is with a really chopped wet bale is don't cut right through, Just cut down till you see it start to move and falls off without taking the plastic. I prefer the Cashels, as it does a more 50/50 cut, the odd time it does fail in keeping the plastic is down to my error not pushing into the bale enough. Also on a windy day the plastic would often blow back over the grabber on the tanco and get stuck, never happens on Cashels.

Do you go thru and make sure there is no plastic or net wrap mixed in with their feed? I saw some pieces that were in with the feed and was just wondering. I know how cows will eat just about anything.

Yes we do go back and clear up any bits we can find because they do love a bit of wrap

Great vid and love the music, it sounds like a coldplay track have you got a link to it or is it KZbin own mix?
@sandersfarmvids3 жыл бұрын
It is indeed Coldplay remixed by Jon Hopkins, a great tune kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3XZZ4KJpc6od6s

Really good video, do you find waste is less compared to silage pit?
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
We have very little silage waste. Our bales are 100% mould free and if there is any leftover silage after the two days it is given to the dry cows who finish it. We do have a lot of plastic waste though which is never ideal.
@craigboyd64624 жыл бұрын
@@sandersfarmvids I think you can deal with the plastic waste though, alot of wasted fodder is more expensive long term. Looks a really good system and frees up time not feeding every day

How do you find Schaffer for using and reliability? Was looking at a 9310t
@lordofhowell71583 жыл бұрын
Tidy bit of kit that. Do you still use it? Brilliant video 💪🏴

Wouldn’t be doing bales if we didn’t have a bale shear!
@catatthedesert1423 жыл бұрын
maybe you should try net-free silage bales, would be less clean up from that, only the plastics.
@sandersfarmvids3 жыл бұрын
Would love to. Our contractor loves his Michael baler but they have not developed a plastic wrapping system that works 100%

What do you mean by TMR
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
Total Mixed Rations. It's where you put all your various ingredients into a mixer wagon and then feed it to the cows

Just out of intrest i notice that Schaffer 9630 is from brockhills of yorkshire in thirsk which is like 30 miles from where i live. just wondered why you got from that distance was there no other dealer nearer? as i am gussing transpot costs must been abit costly?
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
It was last of the old shape models with demo hours on which we found on the internet and was significantly cheaper than a new one!

How many bales are you feeding out a day?
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
When they are fully housed around 35 every other day
@jeffphillips92784 жыл бұрын
Not as many as I thought. Thanks
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
Does depend a lot on dry matter of silage. With wet bales you would have to add a few more on the 2nd day
@Panchdeburca4 жыл бұрын
Super video. And you certainly have a great system in place for feeding the bales, it’s effortless Feeding a couple thousand bales ourselves so have a couple questions. Does the cashels grab get all of the plastic and net all of the time or would it be often that it wouldn’t? How do you find the Schafer loader? They look a super machine Have you tried the barrel wrap on the bales instead of the netting? Thanks a mill
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
I very rarely lose any plastic, the only times it would miss is if the bale is extremely deformed or you don't push into the bale enough when picking it up. Had a tanco before and I think this is the superior shear. Schaffer is built like a tank compared with jcb 320. Cab is no quite as fancy but you know it's going to still feel like new after 5000hrs. Build quality is 2nd to none
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
Never seen a barrel wrap system working. I think you need a lot of space as they can't be stacked. More of an American thing where they have tons of room
@Panchdeburca4 жыл бұрын
Sanders Farmvids thanks a million for the replies. No by barrel wrap I mean the baler uses plastic instead of net to ‘tie’ the bales!! In Ireland a lot of lads now are doing this because when then have a grab like yours they don’t need to separate the plastic and netting as there is no netting, it’s all plastic!! The Americans use a bagging system which like you say needs a huge amount of space, it’s good in theory but not sure in practice in Ireland, or Isle of Man!
@Panchdeburca4 жыл бұрын
Sanders Farmvids thanks a mill for the feedback. We defo need to get one of these grabs as feeding a lot of bales and running out of penknives!! Interesting that you prefer the cashels grab. There’s quite a few brands out there so it’s hard to decide without trying them all! The tanco seems very heavy, a little too much I think On the Schafer, you answered my question superbly because it the comparison with the JCB that I’m thinking of. JCB totally dominate the Irish market at this size but I saw a Schaffer and thought it was a superior machine, again from only looking at not using Thanks a million for you feedback, it’s extremely helpful

How lo g does it take to feed the cows? How many do you feed
@sandersfarmvids4 жыл бұрын
We usually put out about 30 every other day

Hi how much are these to buy
@sandersfarmvids3 жыл бұрын
Can’t remember exactly to be honest but if you put a lot of round bales out you’ll never look back if you get one! Contact Cashels on their Facebook page, I’m sure they will give you a ballpark figure
