@@feedmeimei you can just make the filling and use premade pastry dough for the crust!!! I do that and add lotsss of butter to the crust and just poke holes at the bottom so it doesn’t puff up:)

If you have the Portuguese tart (from Mr. Bread) fresh out of the oven when it’s still pretty hot, it’ll easily be 10/10! Super flaky and melts in your mouth. 🤤🤤🤤

I grew up with eating banana cakes in Eastern Bakery for my birthday. Napoleon is one of my favorite bakeries in Chinatown. Mr Bread is one of my favorite bakeries in the Sunset. TC Pastry has good egg tarts for its price - and I love their cookie crust! I love the cookie crust egg tarts over the flaky crust.

I'm portuguese and I LOVE natas, how similar are they to the Chinese egg tarts? I've never tried them even though I used to go to Chinatown all the time. I always thought they were going to be very different because the portuguese always have the browning and the Chinese ones are bright yellow

Chinese egg tarts are too eggy and not sweet enough. Pasteis de Natas are much better. Have to go down to Hayward, San Jose or Santa Clara to get the real deal.
