Well, the times after the Fall were weird. Freedom on one hand, instability on the other. I'm guessing this is just a nostalgic song. I find it hard to imagine how losing your country feels like...
@hrlfn Жыл бұрын
no. it's not nostalgic at all. and i'm sure it never (really) was. instead it was kind of a finishing point. this is what has been done and happened and this is about what's left for many former gdr citizens, especially those who decided to stay and believe that 'power to the people' is not just a phrase.

second part... There's one country missing from the Atlas, that was of a very special kind. Yes, between BRD and Poland, a land was stolen. I look for the DDR and no one knows where she is. It's a shame that she forgot about me so soon. I look for the DDR, and if she comes back to me I will forgive her.
@tinie1511 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you can find the translated lyrics but I can translate this one for you. Keep in mind that DDR is a "she" in German. There's an empty chair in the UN, where a man from Suhl used to sit. There's one less embassy in Kenya; a man from Jena was there. I look for the DDR and no one knows where she is. It's a shame that she forgot about me so soon. I look for the DDR, and if she comes back to me I will forgive her.

You could write books about this question. You hate it ... you love it ... at least if you realize something is lost forever. The people demanded changes and "in seconds" the whole country was gone. Few peoples I know are happy getting rid of everything regarding this part of history. But many others, although thinking it is better now, feel they lost something. Now, in times without any ideology, it is hard to explain - especially because there are so many different point of views.

Thanks a lot. I'm a bit confused, is this song for or against the DDR? What would your interpretation be?
@Kementeri7 жыл бұрын
Pahkasika0 I'm pretty sure it's a song against it, the lyrics are shady as hell, oh yeah what a shame she's so soon forgotten. Given that the singer was a smuggler and immigrant I don't think he was ever supportive of the system, in fact most of the regular folks from the communist countries couldn't wait for it to fall because everyone was poor and trapped by the regime. The division of Germany into east and west was a very artificial thing crafted to both split the nation and expand Russian influence, I don't think many felt emotional connection to DDR as their country, people were yearning to flee it.
@jannisjag2476 жыл бұрын
The song is actually against german reunification as Flake pointed out in some interviews.
@Maimkillburn695 жыл бұрын
Iwona the split was made by the west and most of the people who lived under it want it back now hell in 1993 Russia was on the brink of civil war because most people wanted the Soviet Union instead of the current gang run oligarchy made up of people claiming the people’s collective work as their property the eastern block went to shit after the fall
