Christian “Flake” Lorenz, keyboardist for iconic German hard rock band Rammstein, recalls how his first group, Feeling B, came together amid the tumult of a divided Germany, military service and the explosion of the new wave sound.
For a brief period in the late ’90s and early 2000s, Lorenz became known for his hilarious and often provocative on-stage antics (in 1998, he and vocalist Till Lindemann were arrested in Massachusetts for committing lewd and lascivious acts). Though he’s long-since curtailed such stunts, Lorenz continues to record and perform with Rammstein today.

For someone as successful as keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz, he keeps a fairly low profile. He seldom grants interviews, and there is little information about his personal life online. Most, if not everything you can read about him, is directly related to his 40-plus years as a professional musician.
In the ’80s, Lorenz played keyboard for punk band Feeling B, which saw its greatest popularity around the end of the German Democratic Republic. After Feeling B disbanded, Lorenz joined the Grammy-nominated, internationally renowned band Rammstein, which is often associated with Neue Deutsche Härte, a subgenre characterized by the combination of alternative and groove metal with elements of techno.

This had to be really hard for him. He‘s really shy, and speaking out freely in a foreign language takes balls. What a great guy.

He makes Rammstein. I mean, Rammstein has several integral unique parts, but IMO he’s the man. I don’t think they would be my fav band if his musical contributions weren’t there. Gives it a whole different sound. I think he also produces or composes much of their music, iirc. There are a couple things about his personality that p me off lol, but that’s my own subjective issue 😇.

Extroverts have an easier time of learning to speak a foreign language as people will listen to them and they aren't overshadowed by other people speaking that language. Introverts have to take more conversational lessons but they also tend read and write that language better than extroverts. But Till is said to be an introvert as well off stage. I think Till is more an ambivert. The mind of one that needs to recharge social batteries alone in nature and then put on the extrovert act with people.
