I had this surgery in 2013. I was very frail due to inability to eat solid food for over two months. Then I began to gain the weight back. In 2018 a blow to my solar plexus tore it open. I was advised by the doctor who did the original surgery to NOT redo it. Now I am back to the antacid's and small meals. Heck I am 85 and not being a lumberjack anymore so I will follow his advice.

I’m 22 years old and I have a hiatal hernia. I haven’t ate in about a year in a half, maybe 2 years. The last time I ate I was eating chicken salad, and I swallowed it without chewing it up all the way, and every since then I’ve had this sensation like there’s something stuck in my throat. Maybe a week before I ate the chicken salad, I had tonsil stones. I haven’t ate "Solid food” in about 2 years. It feels like there’s something stuck in my throat 24/7. The doctors keep saying it’s acid reflux, and I have something that’s called dysphasia, and that’s what’s causing the feeling like there’s something in my throat. But I don’t believe the hernia or the dysphasia is what’s causing the sensation that’s in my throat I’m at the point now where I don’t know if it’s acid reflux, food stuck in my throat, or tonsil stones. It’s very discouraging and almost at the point of giving up I’m also kind of scared about getting the hernia surgery because I don’t know if it’s going to cause other problems. Plus, I’ve heard that if you get this surgery, you can’t throw up any “positive”suggestions??? This video was very encouraging. If I do get surgery, hopefully it will fix all my problems and I get back to my old self and routine.

Kind of in the same boat as you. For years I've had trouble swallowing food. Gets stuck in my throat. Trying washing it down with liquid, to no avail. The liquid sits on top of the food, until eventually I can feel it go down. Just been living with it and eating accordingly. Recently a few months ago, I began experiencing a sensation where something was stuck in my throat most of the time. Felt like phlegm or mucus. I was constantly clearing my throat, most times nothing comes out. And more recently started affecting my voice. If I raise my voice,it breaks up. Wife made me go to doctor. Had appointment with throat specialist two weeks ago. Of course found nothing, and ordered a barium swallow test. Had that done this week. Radiologist said test showed no issues with swallowing. But noted I had haital hernia. Figured the specialist would make a plan for treatment. Doctor office called today to tell me the test results were in and everything was fine, but that I had a hiatal hernia. I said, "so the doctor needs me to come in?" She said no, the doctor isn't requesting to see you. Thanks a lot for helping me out, doc! Not sure what I'm going to do.

@@KM-vc7iy, Thank God I decided to do it!!!! I had large hiatal hernia repair w Nissan Fundoplicaption. The surgery went very well, 5 hours later I was walking down the hall. ( I'm 63y, not a chick anymore) I stayed in the hospital overnight just for observation. Glad I didn't needed any pain killers after I got home, not even a Tylenol. I'm over 6 weeks now, feeling great and I don't have any of the symptoms I had before the surgery. Eating soft foods still, giving my stomach time to heal. I told my surgeon, he had given me my life back.👌

@@KM-vc7iy that was back in the late 60’s. I was about 6. He lived to be 87. He passed in 2008. I’ll tell u he was in awesome shape after that. At the time the stomach freezing was the thing. He was suppose to leave for MN to have that done but found himself in emergency that evening. He would not have survived and several years later all of the patients that did have the freezing operation done were passing away. My dad stayed very involved in the health field until his passing. I wish you the very best. I don’t want anyone to ever suffer.

@@jennyl.5730 Thank you for sharing that inspiring story about your father. Glad to know that the surgery worked out for him. Though I am slightly confused with what you wrote here as i am unsure what a freezing operation is "patients that did have the freezing operation done were passing away." And did your father have a hiatal hernia surgery by itself or was it a combination surgery with a fundoplication like a toupet or a full nissen?

Wondering what the status is today, three years later, of your surgical procedure? I've heard that it doesn't last very long and that stomach will migrate back up into chest cavity? I hope you will be honest so that you might help those of us that may consider that surgery in the future. Thank you.
