They should really mix this song as The Smile. Of all the renditions, initially made by Yorke, then with Radiohead, then with Atoms 4 Peace... I have to say this is definitely THE one. That grungy/rock feel, with an ever so slightly higher tempo with that punchy and low-filtered bass... it's meaty, ominous, raw. It's just awesome. I NEED THIS IN HIGH QUALITY.

Absolutely agree, this is the definitive version for me. Would love for this rendition to show up on The Smile LP2

I don’t know if there are any versions of it on KZbin but this was originally exactly what Reckoner sounded like until they decided to completely flip it. The song had this same chord progression and beat and Thom said the word “Reckoner” like twice so it was very different than the one on In Rainbows

AFP one was the best for me.

The Radiohead version was first, not the Thom solo recording

This is like one of the most Krautrock things they’ve ever done. Insane how this song evolved from an energetic noise rock/metal inspired jam, to a beautiful art ballad, back to a weird and atmospheric electronic track, and then finally into this incredible Krautrock jam. The guitar in the extended coda sounds straight up CAN, and Skinner going off on the drums is just perfect. I really hope they record this for the next Smile album. I’ve loved each iteration of this song (including the very different In Rainbows Reckoner which basically only took the original’s structure, drums, and drawn out crooning vocals), but this one is probably my favorite.

Dont forget when this song played by flea in afp

IIRC, "Reckoner" on In Rainbows is completely unconnected to this song outside of this song originally having the same title. Not connected musically at all.
@LongSinceDead1 Жыл бұрын
@@HQBacon It was born from this original version. Specifically, it came about as the band were writing an extended coda for the original Reckoner, and as they were jamming it evolved into its own thing. But it’s origin is this song, even if it went in a totally different direction.

It’s a Thom Yorke song released in 2009 that he’s played for all his non Radiohead stuff (Atoms for Peace and Solo)

@@QKvox Yes, but it began life as a Radiohead song back in 2001.

They ended their set in Philly with this one... absolutely mind-numbing

that was the best rock show i've been to in a long, long time.

That show was amazing! Their energy that night was palpable, especially when Thom started hyping the crowd up during the build up to the climax of Bending Hectic. So good, I hope they come to Philly again soon

Like it but love the way Radiohead played it the one and only time in 2001.
