Feiwood Gear Chest Pack: A Cautionary Tail

I bought and tried out the Feiwood Gear for a month. It is a high value copy of the Helikon-Tex Numbat but I had issues with its size. The interior organization, build quality and materials are really good. I make a few suggestions on how to improve it but think it would be a solid product for those with a smaller build and even smaller budget.

Looks pretty darn good. Thanks for your review! I have the Helikon, got lucky and didn't pay the full price for it. It has treated me well. Too bad that this one doesn't fit correctly due to the strap placement. I dig the pouch for a handgun.

Good job on the review. 👍 I have the Helikon chest rig. I like it. But I'm a big guy and I find it's smallish on me. I cant imagine squeezing my 'large boned' body between those two straps so close together. I'd probably feel like the thing is angry at me, trying to choke me out... The thing about "affordable gear" I sometimes find is that the sizing is off. For example, I need to pay close attention to sizes when I buy stuff - and I swear the people modelling and (presumably) testing some of this stuff, are tiny sub-compact creatures... Great channel. Really enjoy it. 👍

I just bought this chest pack from Amazon and received it the other day. I have the same issue with the harness, as it take a lot of fiddling with to adjust the fit to avoid that weird bunching at the back. You have to adjust the straps in way that positions the harness really high to where it's pretty much at the nape of your neck so lay flat. Not sure I'm comfortable with that. Been taking it off and on an wearing it around the house to feel it out. Another point of concern is that the strap keeps don't line up properly and take a lot of fussing with; the bottom ones in particular -- I feel that the insides of my arms will be rubbing the rolled up strap on hikes, and I'm not sure how the use of a backpack will affect things. Overall, though, it's a really good quality pack. I just can't talk myself into spending the ridiculous prices of the more reputable brands.

Not knocking that piece, but not all taped seams are the same. Unless the raw edges are trapped ( folded over on itself, under the tape ), taped seams tend to pull out. Because the raw edge will frey under the tape when stressed over time. Just my sad experience. That's why a good tarp has double folded seams. To trap the raw edge so it can't frey. Tape is sometimes, just covering a weak seam. jmho.

Thanks for the info. So it sounds like to do it right you need extra fabric to fold over and then cover with seam tape. I wonder if the reason HPG didn’t do it is the number of fabric layers there make it difficult to fold over. I still wonder if mine was an over sight? Does anyone reading this also have a kit bag with an exposed seam like mine?
