My best friend used to play me Fela and I laughed at him. He passed away and it was the first thing I could think of to listen to to remind me of him, and suddenly I understood everything. More power.

I think you should deeply ask yourself why you laughed at him. Because essentially you only laughed at yourself. I Hope he misses you just as much as you miss him.

I'm an African American given the name Chinwe by my fellow undergrads... They took me to see Fela back in late 1980s...I was blessed to see him live and was overwhelmed with excitement...The ladies dancing , the band, FELA!! I was floored when he, FELA actually gave me a personal wink... If you want to learn about Nigeria....Listen to Fela's music and his documentaries...I hate that he left us so early..I LOVE ME SOME FELA

I got a reply back from a woman , here , off youtube, saying that Fella was a womanizer.....and I should not "glorify" him as a great person.....but I STRONGLY disagree with her.......I know he was a good man with a lot of love in his heart and mind for women....I can tell by what he says about women.....I think the women he had as wives (at first...when he was married to them)), and as dancers and backup singers ....ALL really loved and respected him a lot.....

Fela was an enigma to us kids then, enthralled but dared not show our admiration coz parents largely disapproved of his unorthodox lifestyle esp public romance with weed smoking! But I rediscovered this legend in boarding school & stiĺl swept by his music in mid-age. God bless all who preserved his legacy...rest in peace, "Ogostine" Abami Eda!

@Okwy Special nothing wrong with it lots of people smoked different things at that time as long as the person has common sense. And as far as I'm concerned he's the only Nigerian that's ever spoken with sense and exposed things for what they really were. Everyone need their own coping mechanism to deal with black people matter on this Earth especially Nigeria matter. I just use music and food and cry from time to time.

Fela makes a profound statement approximately at the 17:00 mark. I knew he was conscious, but had no idea how aware and well studied he was. Great ancestor! Love how the Sista's dance. Many may think it is sexual in nature, but no, it 's not, I get it. Pure Spiritual expressions from the dancers, background singers, and musicians. Excellent Khem-istry!

But that rhythm guitar holds everything together. It opens up another and leads all the instruments and the listener into another world and continues leading. It calls on the Bass guitar to lend it its voice when its speaking...spiritual experience all the time.

Fela kuti the legend of music

The big difference between Fela Kuti and the current generation of artists was that he (Fela) was living his divine purpose as a liberator/social activist, while the latter are more concerned with their egos and acquiring money and material possessions while they sit back and see their countries being ruined by race traitors and kleptocrats.
