I'm a South African boy from the Zulu clan who just found out about the Legendary Fela Kuti and I have to say, he probably has to be the best musician ever. He managed to touch hearts with his sound under horrifying times. He still touches my heart and I'm only 22 years of age. His music is something I will be proud to passing on to my children. While Fela is still not even given the status that befits him. Fela is still the best ambassador to have come out of Nigeria. The Nigerian youths have not forgotten and will never forget you Baba Fela Anikulapo ransomkuti because you still are a great source of inspiration and an Idol. A fervent lesson in musical reproduction . Do not go to the studio or laboratory and jumble up some fabrication or concoction in a hurry . It would not last the test of time . Of course you have to have talent . Which is the first and paramount requisite for excellence in all branches of the arts . Since its release in 1973, when l was about 14 years old, l have been thrilled by this exilarating album, sides A and B . Now at 61 years of age, the effect still outstandingly revererberates all over my body and soul with a chilling shiver and great sensation. The sound and instrumental arrangement high in measure, sonorous rendition on the alto 🎷 solo by FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI himself, juicy rhythm guitar, and of course, deep bass, rounded up by tight percussion mix of african and standard 🥁 drum sets . Just irresistible to your feet . LADY .

The alto sax solo was by a great saxophonist named IGO CHICO, Conrad Sunkiojack, man. Fela couldn't do that. His feelings on sax were like his aggressive opposition to oppression, very harsh, ear-grating stuff. Chico - Lord bless his departed soul - was the master of subtle melody on sax. Respect to Chico!

Hello. I 1st started getting hip to Mr. Fela through my dear sister from California. At 1st I was shocked by his lyrics and musical style. But as I got listening I began to get more and more out of what he's still saying today through his musical works and activism and through that of Mr. Fela, Jr's. musical works and activism. I wish all here and in Fela Kuti Music World well. ✌💖

Why won't FELA be celebrated like Bob Marley??
@mahmoudabubakar16946 жыл бұрын
They were both legends and friends..Bob Marley is the best of reggae and Fela Kuti is also the best of afrobeat.
@timmccarthy30346 жыл бұрын
He is celebrated by many as the greatest of his genre of musical style.....I first heard him on Afropop radio, and once was all it took, to get me into his music in a big way... (I am a "white" guy BTW) Bob Marley was the superstar of Reggae largely because of the British promotional push to get his music to the people in a commercially money making way........and Bob Marley was like the spokesman for the Rastafari religion, which is also a BIG reason why he was the big star he was ....and of course, the smoking of Herb is so very popular among all the youth , who , mostly are the ones that flock to concerts and buy records......so Fella never talks about smoking Herb in his songs, whereas Bob and Peter Tosh did.....A LOT......which pushed up his popularity too.....Plus, Bob Marley happened to be a genius song writer, able to fit together melody and lyrics so perfect that only "God" could try and do better.....I think people just need to want to expand their minds in order to get into some kinds of music that they never heard before...If they only listen to one type of music.......then they are missing out on a lot........Commercially speaking, Fella's music is not something you just hear on the radio at all.....Radio only wants the 2 or 3 minute songs that are popular "hits" ....and never allowed to venture beyond that..ONLY alternative radio stations like the one I heard Fella on, dare to expand the bounds of the norm.....If people are not interested in alternatives, they will never hear anything different...SAD BUT TRUE.....So Bob will always be more popular than Fella.....among the general population......

Emii Precious Marley wrote song glorifying Buffalo Soldiers. Not knowing they were white paid mercenaries. He regretted it to the end

Fela didn't have social media to report instantly. I f bob had instantgram. You think he would glorify Blackman killing indigenous. Im park indigenous. My spirit tells me better. He stooped playing Buffalo soldier
@phoule766 жыл бұрын
from Wiki: (summary, yes they were black, but often sent to fight Native Peoples) Buffalo Soldiers originally were members of the 10th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army, formed on September 21, 1866, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This nickname was given to the Black Cavalry by Native American tribes who fought in the Indian Wars. The term eventually became synonymous with all of the African American regiments formed in 1866: Although several African American regiments were raised during the Civil War as part of the Union Army (including the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry and the many United States Colored Troops Regiments), the "Buffalo Soldiers" were established by Congress as the first peacetime all-black regiments in the regular U.S. Army.[1] ... In the last decade, the employment of the Buffalo Soldiers by the United States Army in the Indian Wars has led some to call for the critical reappraisal of the African American regiments. In this viewpoint[46] the Buffalo Soldiers were used as mere shock troops or accessories to the forcefully expansionist goals of the U.S. government at the expense of the Native Americans and other minorities.[46][47]

Both Fela and Hugh travelled to Ghana around 1967 and joined a band called Hedzolleh. That is where they both learnt the style that is called Afrobeat today. Afrobeat originated from Ghana, from the Highlife genre.
