Fela Kuti is the best musical artist to emerge from the continent of Africa. He did not compromise on his music and philosophy despite the brutality suffered at the hands of the Nigerian government. He lost his mother a political activist to the brutal regime of the “Zombies” Nigerian army. Abami Eda RIP

I love Fela. I have lived in Lagos from 73 to 76 and I used to visit him in his house and at the shrine where he had a bad habit in asking people the next song he should play. And as soon as he noticed me in the crowd he would say NO before I opened my mouth. He knew that I was going to ask for Trouble Sleep (as usual). He hated me for this because he never wanted to play a song that was already recorded. My life in Lagos in those years are unforgettable. I was in my twenties straight from Paris to Yaba. I met there the most wonderful people in the world and unfortunately I have lost tracks of all of them. Sniff! Sniff! Sniff!

@@amihogatai8432 As far as I know he didn't like to play live songs that were previously recorded.

That is super cool, but I reckon he may have been upset with that request coz of all the way better songs he had in his repertoire! ;-) (that, yes, didn't mean as much to you personally) Please understand I mean you no personal disrespect. Just trolling! I love everyone who reads this especially YOU!

Genius. I get cold anytime I listen to this musical arrangement; from the saxophone to the keyboards to the drums, he managed to produce one of the most beautiful and unique sounds out of Africa. On Par with Beethoven music.

in a virtual world where the truth will still be stifled, subdued and propagandised, this music is more relevant and at the same time more accessible than ever. Share the music, share the truth and share the love. Those who are not zombie will sing and share with us. FELA IS STILL WITH US. ALL of US. In his music, his message and his SPIRT, He never left :)) Today I type a message to someone Ive never met but have found something in common with. He gave us something to share but its not ours to keep. Share this and the message will be heard by the ears that need to hear it. So many do these days! Peace Fam!

As a man in his early fifties from a working class family I cannot say that I had Fell Kuti heard many times, but years, and I mean decades, later I can hear Blue Note as well as west Africa rhythms & instrumentation. Just trying to say this is soul music no matter where you came from.
